Wow. That's quite a cautionary tale indeed.
I attended school in the Erindale Woodlands area, only going up to St Josephs occasionally if I wanted to go on a walk, and really felt like going that ways.

Anyways, yeah, I almost regret not being able to see the old Erin Mills mall before it got renovated into whats currently a very bland space. While the clocktower is a bit ugly, at least it's distinctive and more interesting compared to the crappy globe thing there now.

My inlaws live 5 minutes south of there. My wife went to St. Martin. My BIL's inlaws lived on Credit Heights, backing onto the woods and Credit River. A few weeks ago I found out my colleague grew up one street over and went to Woodlands.

This convo reminds me now of this beast of a complex. Went to a party here once as my wife's friend grew up here. This thing has mansards for days. Though it's not even all that bad. Maybe because all the mansards roofs are small.

And Westdale Mall... my friend was withdrawing from the ATM there at night and got jumped when he went back to his car. He resisted and got a slash on his cheek. At least
he got to keep his money. And he said the punks dropped the knife and ran away. He called me to come help him when he got home. He lived literally one minute from Credit Valley Hospital but he refused to let me take him there. And I said I wanted to go look for the knife and he said no. So I was skeptical as to what actually happened. And a few years later the condo rental downtown he and his family owned, that was rented out to international students, caught fire. One student tried to escape via the balcony and drop down to the one below but fell to his death. This story was true as it was on the news and he was interviewed live by the reporter. And I saw the smoke from the fire from the train that morning. Anyway, he was always up to something.

Quite the dividing line Dundas is. This condo complex and shitty Westdale Mall plus a couple shitty apartment buildings and plaza on the north side but mansions on the south side. Though the north side is not all like that. Lots of decent and nice homes there and quite impressive homes again near U of T Mississauga.

I know that area like the back of my hand. I attended Queenston Public for a number of years, and spent highschool in Woodlands, which is one ugly hunk as well.
I've come to really appreciate how well put together Erindale Woodlands as a neighbourhood is, despite its cumbersome road network.
The mix of housing, especially for a post-war subdivision, is really notable and combined with the land use planning, really puts it up there as one of the better post war neighbourhoods in the GTA IMO.
I know that ugly mansard complex well, and can't believe it was converted to a condo, just because I imagine maintenance must be a pain.
I've always found that difference in wealth from one side of Dundas to another to be fascinating in a way, as I have friends from either side of that street.
That being said, the continued McMansion-ization of the wealthier area has been a real sight for sore eyes.

I recall joking to my friend that you may as well break a window above that entrance way of one of those houses and installing your own balcony above the entrance as a selling point.

I had quite the Christmas holiday time road trip. Managed to pass by the trifecta.....The Honeydale Mall site in Etobicoke, Agincourt Mall and Milton in all of its glory. My retinas are still intact surprisingly.

Pray tell, what is going on at the world-class Honeydale Mall?

Lol. I am fascinated by window placements. I would love to know how this happens. While ugly, at least it adds to the interesting tapestry of that area.

I think Dubai is what Laval aspires to be. Mecca has that insanely hideous clocktower too.

Bizarre! American uglies along the border are fair game for this thread. Just look at the casino from Niagara Falls NY.
