I really do envision Broadway having mid to high density developments along the stretch from the river to 8th with amazing shopping and restaurants on the bottoms of them. It would really be an interesting and diverse area of the city which other parts could be modeled after.

I drove down College Drive yesterday (maybe this is old news and I don't get over there much) to find holes on either side of the street. JB Black condos underway and on the university side.... um, what's that expansion again? Looks developey around there. Far more than downtown, sigh.

Oh, and in minor news...

Keo's on 2nd Ave appears to be now open. Great looking location too. /end minor news.

Not sure what the status of the Uptown Market is, hopefully they're open soon. I can't wait to be able to grab a few things from there before catching the bus home from work.

The man behind a plan for a new grocery store in downtown Saskatoon says he's looking forward to February. That's when it's expected the new Uptown Market will finally open its doors. Part owner Rexy Smith says the lease has been signed, and the walls have been painted. Now they're just waiting for some key equipment to arrive. Smith says he's been waiting for the people who are supplying him with freezers and coolers to come through on their shipment. He says that's what's behind a delay in the official grand opening.

"They don't give it to you on time. This is what I learned after talking to many grocery people. They said they promise you December 1rst, but they won't give it to you for another two months."

Smith says suppliers had promised him he would receive the new equipment by the end of 2009. He hopes to serve about five percent of the approximately 4000 people living in the downtown core.

The 5200 square foot store will be located on 2nd Avenue. Since 2004, downtown residents have had to travel elsewhere to do their food shopping. That's when Extra Foods, formerly located on 3rd Avenue, shut down.

One feels stuffed even during Blades' games where they have a decent crowd. It's impossible to go for an intermission walk with large crowds.

You should come down to the Brandt Centre. There is an area on the concourse that is literally only 6 feet wide. They have media seating and beer carts impeding flow everywhere. I just stay in my seat between periods and try to pick up a beer when the game is on because it is so frustrating.

It's funny, I didn't even recognize the Lux from that angle.

As for the uptown market, it's painted empty, but (I beleive) and the plumbing and wiring is done. I'll give updates when I see freezers and shit haha...

I hate winter, that's really all I wanted to say. Green means go, red means stop, white means forget how to drive.

I don't know if this has been posted yet, but I work up in the airport industrial area and the McNab redevelopment has a sign up... for the "AeroGreen Business park"... there was a blurb in the Star a while back

So I am guessing that there will be development around that area faily soon. I can see Air transport business becoming a hot commodity in Saskatoon as we are a hub for the Northern service airlines and that will do nothing but grow in the coming years. I am excited to see the redevelopment of the area.

Also I have some images of the CUC packed for the World Junior Hockey, that US vs Canada game on New Years was probably in the top 5 Games I've ever seen live...

Thanks for the pictures of the Luxe! I've enjoyed watching it go up... and completely agree that it should have been 20 stories. Hopefully we'll get some more residential developments in the area soon! Any word on the parcel of land by the planet car-wash just off Broadway? Great place for another 20 story tower.
Also on my wish list for Broadway is an other bar. Everywhere is always packed, and it would be nice to have something a little more urban. I'd love to see Flint 2... any thoughts?

Some of the people who live around Broadway have sand in their vaginas and piss and moan everytime there's even a whisper of a new drinking establishment being opened up around there. So that sort of puts the kibosh on anything new going up around there for a while. I would imagine no one wants to deal with the dozens of reviews and approvals and community meetings full of angry old people it would need to go through. Although I agree the need is there and I pretty much avoid Broadway if I'm on one of my drinking adventures these days cuz there's never any room anywhere.

Maybe you're right, but I think the Broadway area could do with a few more 10-15 story towers. There are already some in that height range and the increased density would probably do wonders for Broadway business!

...not to beat a dead horse but had the River Landing happened it would have been a nice segway from downtown to Nutana. We need more residential in the city's core area. How great would it be if Nutana and downtown were one confluent core of density!

It took me a couple of World Junior games watching on TV to notice/realize that they had the camera's on the opposite side of the building from where the camera's normally are (mainly due to the bowl seating finally being completed). Anyone know if this a permanent move, or was it just a TSN move for this tournament? It makes more sense to have the camera's across from the players benches rather than behind them, not that it matters much after the tournament's done I guess (unless you watch Blades games on Shaw).

I hope that it gets reused for something. It dates back to 1921 and appears to have heritage value (at least from the outside).
