Hamilton has never really been a major centre for office employment - there is probably more office space in Burlington than in Hamilton.

What Hamilton should focus on is drawing a lot of the offices in Burlington westward into the city. There isn't a ton of major employers in the suburban areas of Hamilton as it is, they are mostly across the Skyway.

Pulling L3Harris from Aldershot up to Waterdown was a huge win for the City's tax base - if not the downtown.

Unfortunately a lot of office space in Halton is occupied by engineering and advanced manufacturing companies like L3Harris, which simply do not like urban office spaces and see the lowest rates of urban office uptake as office tenants. Even in Toronto most of these tenants are out in the suburbs.

Notwithstanding that, there are still lots of tenants in Burlington that could be poached. The city just has to sell the downtown for these tenants - ensure adequate access (i.e. parking, GO access), ensure good amenities, competive lease rates, etc. Downtown Hamilton has struggled due to it's "unclean" image for a long time, that's changing now. I suspect we may see more tenants start to flow downtown again as the city continues to evolve.

Getting better regional transit service INTO Hamilton would probably help. There's good enough municipal transit to complete that "last mile" trip from either of the downtown GO stations, which you can't presently do in suburban office parks like those in Burlington or elsewhere around Toronto's suburban ring (and serving those with transit will not be easy... they're so spread out)

But the pandemic has created so much uncertainty as well, and organizations seem to have done such a good job supporting work-from-home that employees have little need to commute into an office at all. I have co-workers who balk at being asked to be on site a couple of days a week, and there's not much management can do about it.

The evolution of downtown Hamilton will have to rely on residential growth for quite some time, I think.

It'll be a while before we see that extended to Hamilton. CN (and CP) would have a say. So unless Metrolinx is able to get its own tracks here, doubtful we'll see it happen. Perhaps battery-electric trains at some point, but that would be a long time into the future.

Just getting frequent diesel service to connect to the "end of the line" would be a win.

What's that black spot on the side of the building..?

Also looks like they're removing the cinderblock in the parking garage area? Odd.. guess that explains why the cladding has the perforations, for breathability.

Regardless of Hamilton service getting electrified the electrification of the Go network up to Burlington station will likely see 30 minute service brought to West Harbour station (currently hourly) and will see the speed from West Harbour to Union at least during certain parts of the day be reduced to 55-75 minutes. Compared to the current 80-85 minutes.

That black spot looks like there was a compressor set up there and the diesel exhaust was pointed right at that part. Or a welding mishap? Maybe that is the exact spot a soot sprite met it’s untimely demise.

I might be seeing things but when driving by earlier today it sure looked like the cladding on the second story of the garage was black as opposed to the bronze/gold below?

It was mentioned above, but they are definitely black. I took a pic today I'll upload. It shows the internal structure which I thought was cool.

New renderings showing the updated design. The western portion is now grey instead of gold, and there is more brick above the windows at street level. Also, note the new "10 BAY" signage...

One issue I see is that you can see the backing plates through the cladding, but otherwise it looks great
