I'm not so sure about that. The Sheraton next to Carefour Laval comes to mind. It's a very large hotel right in the middle of the mall parking lot and retail tourism is virtually it's sole purpose. Of course, the scale would be quite different at Champlain but they are both CF properties. There is definitely a huge benefit in having retail tourists stay right on the property. It makes sense for CF to push for an affordable yet nice hotel right in the parking lot. Hopefully the city doesn't make too much of a fuss over lost parking.

A hotel of that type will be a good addition to the area since the Ramada shut down last year and I think there will be be plenty of room to build something nice. And the potential is there.

This article (in French) is a couple of weeks old but confirms that Place Cartier (http://placecartier.com/) is officially dead: http://www.acadienouvelle.com/actualites...et-dimmeuble-a-cinq-etages-tombe-a-leau/

According to the article, one of the investors pulled out which led the others to decide not to proceed.

Let's see what happens once (if) that new hotel goes up.

That would have been a cool project for the City of Dieppe but I hope with the development if the hotel that this will change.

Ideas on what is under construction right next to Acadia Vet? Construction has started on the property next door....hole in the ground and construction fence is up. Thoughts?

Also I noticed today the the structural steel is up on the expansion of the Ambulance NB Hangar at the airport.

Well They might do like other real estate investors, and sell off the land to another investor who would then in turn Build something there. That's apparently what happen with some real estate off Dieppe Blvd.

I do hope something will be built because Dieppe's downtown is looking a little bare bones.

I don't know what it is but the foundation was in this afternoon when I drove by. There is no sign. Looks like a small footprint and the building will be right up against the sidewalk.

Maybe another Starbucks!

Given that Dieppe didn't have a downtown at all 10 years ago, I think they've made good progress.

Very funny... It would be sad if it was another Starbucks Because it would mean that where turning into those types of people... Not really but when it comes to coffee chains I'm ok with them unless they're the over priced coffee chains then we have a problem.

I can't disagree with you there. I think my view points on the downtown, and how it looks might be based on areas I've lived. They have either had a downtown or haven't... Never anyplace with half a downtown like Dieppe has. But then again 10 years ago Dieppe's population was not as big as it is now.

It can't be a Starbucks, there's one a few minutes walking distance from there. But it looks like a coffee place.

This lot is within the designated downtown area and therefore drive thru windows are not allowed. If it is a coffee shop, it would be risky being in competition with a Starbucks drive thru just a few hundred meters away.

Really?

On another note it turns out that they may have just took a step back from the building between City Hall 200 Champlain St. From what I've heard anyway not sure what percentage is but hopefully we will find out sooner rather then later.

What did you hear? The article from Acadie Nouvelle seemed pretty clear that the project was dead.
