I'm not arguing the new vs. reno of MSG (my vote is new since only the shell and ceiling were retained, otherwise completely new layout and structure), but what I don't understand is how they could fit this new, modern arena in the old shell? You can' take say the Saddledome, Rexall or, we'll go back in time here, the Forum and rebuild a new arena inside with modern conveniences. There is a limit of space. You can't add seats, washrooms and expand the concourse, add luxury boxes and a modern press box. You're constrained to the volume of the old building.
At least with Soldier Field, they could build up and out.
