This may sound odd, but IGF's problem isn't that the concourse is too small (for their usual intended purpose), it's just that this is the only place for the crowd to disperse. The majority of the people on the concourse at halftime aren't using the washroom or buying concessions, they're standing around socializing, which makes things worse for those who are trying to use the concourse for service related reasons. Opening up the outdoor beer garden area during the game was a great way to alleviate some of the congestion, but unfortunately this area should have been designed inside the stadium. I know Migs gets crapped on for his continuous reference to New Mosaic using a legit stadium architect/designer, but he's right, and this is a perfect example. The Sky Deck WAS a good idea, but it seems like an afterthought.

A big difference between the 2 stadiums (IGF and NM) is that in New Mosaic, there are designated areas for fans to gather and socialize during downtime (halftime, etc), where as IGF really only has the concourse (and now the beer garden outdoor area... Which is outside the stadium).

At New Mosaic, there is a General Admission Lounge where many folks (500 capacity) will overflow during halftime, several landing areas (roughly 10) to stand around, talk and watch the game, and several levels of party decks in the South Endzone. This also does not count the numerous standing level areas which give you view of the field. All of these areas were designed to alleviate congestion from the actual concourses so they can be used for food/washroom traffic. The concourses are also designed where you can't necessarily see the field, so you get your concession items (or use the washrooms) and if you still want to socialize, move to an area where you can see the field (areas highlighted below). There are also Club and Suite Lounges not mentioned above as I don't feel Club/Suite patrons really add much traffic to the GA concourses other than arriving/leaving.

I love IGF. It's a great place to watch a football game. The atmosphere is electric. The roof and intimate design of the stadium amplify the crowd noise which just entices the fans to be even louder. This is an incredibly great design for a stadium, however I'd be lying if I said there weren't flaws in how the rest of the stadium was designed and put together. These flaws are specifically due to an inexperienced (stadium) designer/architect. Like I said, IGF is a great stadium, I will continue making at least 1 trip a year to visit it because it is a great place to watch a game.

Regina is still very low on the totem pole for national events, even with one of the nicest/newest stadiums.

And that's mostly why I'm not fussed about it. Would it have been nice to have the additional versatility... sure... but we're really not going to really miss out on much by not having it.
I don't get the urgency for hosting soccer at New Mosaic Stadium either, I wonder how many soccer games old Mosaic stadium ever had the opportunity/cared to host. It just seems like the people that really care are the ones that live on the other side of the country and wouldn't make an effort to come to Regina for a game anyway.
The most important thing is to have a successful build with minimal defects unlike some other new stadium builds in the country and have the main tenant happy with the result. If the CSA is desperate enough at having soccer games at the country's newest, most advanced stadium then they will pay for the opportunity & make it happen at New Mosaic. If not, oh well..

I have friends that have played soccer at the current Mosaic stadium and the kids soccer for at least one of the organized soccer groups have played at the current Mosaic stadium as well. It's a big event for them and the kids are super excited about it. That seems to be going the way of the dinosaur here.

We are making the stadium less flexible for other events. It means the new stadium will be less busy than the old stadium and give less back to the community. Which is pretty inflexible and not what I would have hoped for out of the stadium. That is why some people are probably irritated with it. I just think it is a fairly simple and easy decision that someone doesn't/didn't want to make.

Current Mosaic has permanent lines on the field (same as new). I think you may be mistaken in assuming the new stadium won't be used for soccer. It will be used, it just doesn't have removable football lines (which Fifa requires for major events). As others have pointed out, this has been beaten like a dead horse though so there's no use in me saying what's already been said.

They'll still be able to use it though... if the current stadium's permanent lines don't stop them, then the new stadium's won't either. Due to better drainage there also wouldn't be the massive crown running down the centre of the field to deal with.

All that won't happen is 1 or 2 possible high level events that require a football-markingless field (if we'd even get that).

Thanks for the clarification.

This information isn't available on the main new mosaic stadium website and searches reveal almost nothing. Makes for lots of misinformation from both sides.

IIRC, Sasksport is leasing some office space in the new stadium and also putting in funds for maintenance over the first 30 years of the stadium (the length of the loan term and as far as I know, it is the length of all current agreements regarding the stadium). As part of that agreement, I believe they get a certain percentage of time/number of dates each year when they are allowed to use the stadium for amateur sports (community groups, youth sports, amateur events, etc).

From a purely visual look at IGF & NMS I prefer IGF.
Will be nice to experience a game in both to make my final decision.
It's like choosing between a BMW & an Audi anyway, especially when your driving a Pinto (McMahon) (I do still love going to games in the old gal though).

Let's just call this what it is. MLS fans offended that Regina isn't building New mosiac with soccer in mind.

I actually got banned from the rpb forum because of my defence of the cfl. Im a ticats season ticket holder. But sure, carry on with your generic and incorrect assumptions.

Anyways. As others have stated the topic has been beaten to death. So moving on.

No need for kickball lines is such a fine football stadium!

I agree, it would be stupid to install a blank field order to accompany soccer, for maybe1 or 2 games in the future, nobody actually knows when or if. It's a stadium in a city of 250k people... Maybe when the time comes 10 yrs down the road if Canada puts a bid in on the World Cup and if Canada is granted the WC, then maybe Regina gets to host, at that point Regina will install a new field.. In the mean time they'll continue to use permanent stitched lines on the field so continual maintenance of the field football lines are not required.

Riders are primary tenant with the Rams as secondary tenant, with practices every single day of the week, and games on weekends....

But I guess there might come a time that Canada may host a large international tourny in which Regina might host a game or two

I could give a shit about the MLS, but I do think that the lines should be painted on and not stitched.

You gain flexibility, not closed options. Has it even been discussed why Regina did it and differed from just about every other new stadium in Canada that has been built or refurbished.
