Meet the Graduate Austin Hotel, Bringing 200 Feet of Bricks Downtown

Quote:
Austin’s own location of the Graduate Hotel is not anticipated to be a particularly subtle building. This collegiate-minded boutique lodging brand is set to develop a new outpost only a few blocks removed from the University of Texas campus in the far northwest corner of downtown at 1800 Guadalupe Street — and like many of the other locations designed by the Chicago-based architects Hartshorne Plunkard, the building has a serious predilection for masonry. Like, so much brick it got posted to the incredibly snobby “architectural revival” subreddit earlier this year.

Alongside its 194 hotel rooms, the building will contain a residential component with 228 rental units operated under the developer’s new Memoir Residential platform, which offers both traditional leases and shorter-term rentals of fully-furnished residences. More than 8,000 square feet of retail space will be included in the hotel building, most on the ground floor but with additional use on the rooftop amenity deck at level 19. The entrance to the hotel component of the building will face West 18th Street, with access to the residential lobby and its amenities located at the corner of West 18th and Guadalupe Streets.

I thought that was a photo of Miami.

Austin’s high rise growth is fascinating. I visited Austin twice in December for work and from the moment you step in the airport terminal, Austin feels like a place with a lot of soul and a lot happening.

The downtown area was also very vibrant.

I went to Austin expecting it to be overhyped but it exceeded the hype IMO.

Probably the best capture of the eastern side of the core/Rainey Street cluster I've ever seen.

Northland Living plans 35-story condo tower in downtown Austin

Quote:
Northland Living, a development arm of Canadian hospitality giant Northland Properties Corp., has revealed new details for its planned condo tower in downtown Austin called Luminary. It's one of the first local projects by the company, which began establishing its Austin presence in 2023.
Currently, the Combined Law Enforcement Associations of Texas is located in a building at the 14th and Guadalupe site. The organization will relocate temporarily but move into office space in the new tower when it's completed, according to the announcement.

The price of a condo will range from $600,000 to more than $3 million, according to Northland, and Austin-based Urbanspace LLP is in charge of marketing and sales.

Flintco LLC is the project’s general contractor, Page Southerland Page is designer, Kimley-Horn is the project engineer and Drenner Group PC is providing legal services.

I don't want to get in a city vs city debate but it is amazing to compare Austin, which is booming and Sacramento (it is a nice city with a great bike trail and close to the Sierras), which is largely stagnant.

Regarding booming cities, I think Austin could arguably be compared to anywhere in the US except NYC.

Miami might be ahead as well. But still very impressive.

Interesting find.
http://www.usa.com/rank/texas-state-...ow=&phigh=&ps=

According to this website, the most densely populated town/district in Texas is Miguel Barrera. 24K/sq mi. I mean, it's only a little skewed given that the town has 425 people crammed into 0.02 sq mi...and it's basically just a small neighborhood.

Thank you for sharing that link! I’ve never even heard of that town. But it’s a cool name!
