The sun has now set on a perfectly beautiful sunny and cool day. Our low on the basin was 2.6 at 9 am and our high 4.6 at 3 pm. Yesterday's winds were very strong but my terrace tree survived unscathed.

I often look at the closely to see if anyone I know just happens to be in them!

A few observations about my weather station statistics for 2023:

May to September was mostly normal temperatures, but the cooler months were notably lacking in cold weather.

It dropped below -10 only five times, all on consecutive nights from January 31 to February 4, the coldest being -16.6. Outside of that week, there was barely any cold.

The mean temperature for both January and February was above freezing, January's mean was +0.4 and February's was +0.9. Every month of 2023 will have a mean temp over 0 degrees, which probably never happens.

Even more amazing, there were only seven days with highs below freezing during 2023. The two week forecast is almost to the end of the year, with no cold weather in sight, so these stats may hold.

A chilly -9C and sunny in Moncton at 8 AM, only getting as high as -3C this afternoon.

A warming trend over the next few days culminating with a high of +10C on Sunday with rain. No snow in the forecast period. It may be a green Christmas after all.

It's a bright and sunny morning in Halifax. Yesterday's high was 6.5 and the low is now -3.8. We dropped below 0 at about midnight and we've been slowly dropping since. The forecast high for YHZ today is -4. By tomorrow afternoon this cold air will have passed. Forecast for tomorrow is a high of 6 under a mostly sunny sky.

I finally made mushroom risotto in my instant pot tonight: turned out excellent. Then I baked a dozen banana muffins for my birthday tomorrow. It was mostly cloudy in Toronto, no snow in sight. It's supposed to be 50F/10C tomorrow and sunny.

Drove back to Montreal. Real decent drive. 7-8C and sunny for most of the drive I have to say my car thermometer is pretty good. As I was passing through Kingston, the car thermometer was showing 7C and sure enough the EC station was sitting at 6.5C at that hour. It's not only today. Every single time I compare the car reading with EC station's it's always spot on or a degree difference.

Also fun the observe the snow situation... completely bare for much of the drive.
You start to notice some wet spots (where the snow had been melting) around Prescott.
The first piles are noticeable around Morrisburg.
The first very patchy snow cover (in shady areas) around Cornwall.

Definitely a lot of melt has happened in Montreal but still some snow remain. Some grass popping up in sunnier places.

The warmspot was Milk River, AB at 12.2C.

Warmest low was Estevan Point, BC at 8.9C.

Cool, cloudy and mostly dry. There were a few light scattered showers earlier in the day.
The cloud cover is like a blanket, keeping the temperatures very steady.

Thursday's high at Vancouver Harbour was 8 C, the low was 7 C.

We reached a high of just -1.5 yesterday under sunny skies. Our low at midnight was -3.2. I caught sight of a meteorite streaking across the sky when I went out to unplug the xmas lights. Had it been warmer or had I not been in sock feet I would have watched for others. Currently we're sitting at 3.7 and heading for 7 with a mix of sun and cloud.

I love the fact the kitscannabis corporate vehicle is a VW bus with surfboards on the roof.

It makes you think that when you enter their fine establishment to make a purchase, you will be greeted by a suntanned blond guy with a Hawaiian shirt saying "Duuuude, what's hangin'!!!"

Currently +2C in Moncton and sunny, going up to +4C this afternoon.

Actually, the owner came up behind me just as I was taking these pics, all smiles because probably yet again somebody was admiring his set of wheels.
He was a handsome and athletic Eurasian looking fellow, probably middle aged. He had a goatee and long hair pulled back in a ponytail. Wearing shorts (of course).

I wanted to ask him what the vehicle was but didn't want to appear too ignorant so I just asked what year it was.
He rolled his eyes and said wellll... it was actually a '97 (something something) but he made it up to look like an old Volkswagen.

He's probably had a lot of fun making it look like something that would bend someone's mind.
It's a right hand drive, so obviously from Japan.
Notice the little air horn (?) above the driver's side window. He can just reach out and squeeze the rubber bulb.
Also, on the side were some fridge magnets with a little sign saying "Free magnets! Take one."

Stellar day. Sunny and mild.

First 2 photos are during the day, just north of Stony Lake. Last 2 are this evening in Cobourg.
