With owning their own building, they will get 100% of all the revenue from booze, concessions and gate receipts. a project like this can get financed over many years.
pretty much most of the concerts go to Sasktel center. there is no reason to think they won't attractive t shows in a new building.
Oh lord - I can already hear the b*tching about lack of parking... you know, because it wouldn't be surrounded by a parking lot, and there isn't enough street parking within a 10 foot radius of the arena doors.

(they'll obviously feel free to ignore all of the parkades & the fact that downtown is Regina's transit hub)

$200 million is frankly what it will cost. I suppose you could build a slightly larger version of the Brandt Centre for say $125 million, but then what would be the point?

I do not believe even the SaskTel Centre makes any more than a very modest profit - enough to put aside for the occasional capital upgrade - not enough to have contributed anything to its original construction cost or financing cost. Even in Edmonton where they have way more events and an NHL team, private $ only paid a fraction of the cost of the new Arena.

It's actually just rentals... somehow. http://metro1827.ca/ Because you know you've always wanted to rent a 313 sq ft apartment!

Here's a theory, maybe they don't expect to make money off the arena, break even prospect at best. Perhaps though the thinking is improving fan experience for pats fans, which increases attendance, profit and value of the Pats franchise. They've shown a willingness to do that with the purchase of the scoreboard at their own cost and no return on investment expected from that. Maybe it's a similar line of thinking with a new arena?? Pure speculation on m part..

It is interesting that the final Railyard concept has not been released, despite being finished last summer, and was scheduled to be publicly released in Oct. http://www.reginarevitalization.ca/railyard-renewal-project/planning/

Regina Downtown hosted an informational breakfast in November. The topic was the success of a privately owned downtown arena built in London, ON. They even brought in a representative from London as the guest speaker. Media was present, yet no stories were reported.

Then for reasons unknown, CTV did this fluff piece in Jan on the Railyard site that offered no new info. http://regina.ctvnews.ca/mobile/plans-moving-forward-on-railyard-renewal-project-1.3229471

In comparing that land to where the MTS Centre (15,000 seats) is in downtown Winnipeg, it definitely looks doable. That would be interesting. I'd rather see a (hypothetical) new rink go there than the old rail yards.

Yikes, did you look at the building floorplan. That's some squishy living. More like hotel rooms than apartments!!

Not everyone needs a 1000 sq ft apartment to live. Nor can they afford it. There is definitely a market for smaller living.

Yeah, except that assumes it'll be priced according to size. All of the evidence suggests these'll be priced well above what ~500 sf 1 bed apartments go for in the rest of the city. Hell it's more than a lot of 2 bed apartments.

Agreed! My condo apartment in Toronto is a one bedroom 491sq ft space and it's been perfect for me for 5 years. The sizes on this plan are very much accurate for a one person or even two person living space. This is awesome and makes me happy that they are getting people living in that building. We need more this infill downtown.

I lived in 325 sf with two people for year. And it was fine, for the time being.

But to think that it's going to be a big seller in Regina is absurd. Especially for $1215 for 300 sf that are poorly laid out.

Ah, fair enough. Noticed that Impark has a lot behind the building and was wondering maybe if they were going to take this over. Didn't realize there was underground access.

There isn't an Impark lot behind it. They only have underground.

Ten thousand seats is way to small for a Arena , more like 15 thousand that can be expanded to 18 thousand

LOL. Yes, we should definitely build a bigger arena than Winnipeg. That's fiscally responsible! And do you really think the Pats want to play in an arena that is 2/3 empty every night?

If we left planning in Regina to thefourthtower we'd have more infrastructure than Toronto.

Anything over 10,000 is a waste. Saskatoon and Winnipeg both have 15,000 and that's way too big for Saskatoon. Edmonton's seats 18,000.

If we get a new rink we have to be realistic that we're never going to have an NHL team based there. The Pats don't need anything more than 6,000. Anything above that is for concerts and vanity.

The Agridome seats 6200 for hockey. If a new rink had seating for 8000-9000 that's really the best option.

That rink in thirty years will be way to small the population will be another hundred thousand we must think ahead
