Do people here not understand what the St. Regis is? This is a much more well known name - very luxury brand - known around the world and highly regarded. From a marketing perspective with this name brand, this is 100X better. Put it this way - last time I stepped foot in a St. Regis was when my friend stayed at one in NYC. There were a bunch of US Senators staying in it. Yes, it's one of those types of hotels.

Honestly, if I were some of the people suing because Wanda won't be doing the hotel anymore, I'd feel pretty silly right now. St. Regis is a step up or two from Wanda Hotels and much higher on a recognition standpoint worldwide.

Seriously, St Regis is arguably the nicest brand in Marriott/SPG portfolio, other being the edition brand, which would also have been an amazing option.

St Regis > four seasons/Ritz/trump in terms of brand exclusivity and cache. They only have ATL/SF/NYC/DC/Bal harbor and Aspen locations in the us, it's very exclusive. oh and deer valley, that one is bonkers.

I think Chicago (and the developers) ends up winning here. St Regis is an ideal flag and keeps the exclusivity that is needed here, even if it somewhat lacks the edginess that some may have been seeking

St Regis sounds official. Sounds posh, sounds historical. Legacy and so on.

It also sounds expensive too. Like here ya go sir, a Blue Moon beer, for $20. That kind of gig.

But I'll say this, a much better name than Willis. Sears tower will always be Sears tower. They need to GTFO with Willis.

I'd gladly stay at the St Regis... not the Willis.

New Opening Date

This is fantastic news to hear!!!

Apologies if this was mentioned in the article...but what's the new opening time frame for the hotel and restaurants?

I ask because when you factor in all of the moving parts with incorporating a new hotel/restaurants of this caliber....

- The interior designers crafting "The Look" of the hotel to match the St Regis brand + the design of the building + feel of the city and neighborhood
- The timeline building those costume luxury pieces
- And the same same for the restaurants.

....when you think about all of this...you realize this is not going to be some quick turnaround.

Is Summer 2022 a crazy time frame to assume final delivery (which might be perfect timing when you factor in the recent climate of the industry)?

Agree with you on all of this.

Yeah, St. Regis seems like a major upgrade to me. But I still think this tower is sort of a disaster. That view from the south...yuck.

^^That's a good question, a lot of it depending on how quickly Covid can be tamed worldwide. Summer 2022 may be the furthest date, but I can see Winter 2021 being a possibility too...also contingent on how far along the hotel build-out is. Residents are supposed to start moving in next month..

I found these online, but I suspect these were the last design renders of when it was the 'Vista' - regardless, at least gives a good idea of interior spaces, even though finishes will change:

Looks like a great place for a cocktail and to watch 400 LSD and T2E rise.

wow harry, great update that focuses on some of the smaller details of the building. thanks for getting out there!

yes sentinel, those renderings are from a while back. looks super cool, can't wait to see those massive.. things. what are they called. diagonal support beam things.

after sleeping on the name change i think it's actually a super lucky twist of events for us. definitely going to age better. now that the name vista is gone, its very easy to part with

^agreed - although in my head I feel like Tribune Tower East would look like a more fitting "St. Regis Chicago" than Vista

The St. Regis in Bora Bora is super nice.

I'm OK with the name change, and I'm guessing it will probably end up being much better than whatever they eventually decide to call "875 North Michigan Avenue."

Meh, I'd rather Chicago (and possible Tribune Tower East) get a unique, 'first in the US' hotel, like the Langham or Virgin Hotel (but 5 star), rather than a flag that already has a presence here. Shangri-la seems so...2008.
