Nice that they’re building some, what I assume are, new condos!

This photo was in the Record the other day. It looks to me like it might have been taken last year. From Downtown Kitchener in the centre, you can see Uptown Waterloo (about two thirds of the way up and a bit to the right) and the university district beyond that (above and off to the right). Just to show how close together this stuff is, for those not familiar with K-W.

Thankfully we have Dustin and can still see the original core (not incl. ex-trump etc.). Great angle.

RBC: I forget the age of this Canadian icon (nearly 40years?) but I never wished for RBC to be taller.... the over the top use of 2500 ounces of gold in the glazing (time to salvage that), the angles, the triangular floorplate and the once breath-taking atrium were unique in the world.

Now that the planet is building 600 to 1000m, it's under 600 foot height is forgettable to height-geeks.

But it still amazes in person after all this time and deserves to be celebrated and enjoyed... guess there's no hall of fame for towers that don't pierce the clouds but this one still stands up as a modern spectacle against anything built since. I bet a few hundred thousand tourists and photographers might agree.

P.S. I'm a fan of the complex ;-)

^^ Oh I'm a big fan of the complex as is as well.
The "taller" comment just occurred to me when I saw the photo and was picturing in my mind the nice slender profile a taller version would have.

Here's it's model being molested by then Royal Bank vice-president D. W. Bill' Morison. The project started in 1976 and cost $100,000,000 at the time roughly $435,000,000 in today's currency.

Even in spite of its flashy glazing, Royal Bank Plaza is easy to overlook given its much taller neighbours. But it's definitely a great looking complex... one of the true gems in Toronto's skyline.

Renovations have made it a lesser building like most of the bank towers in Toronto.

RBC Toronto

I love the use of angles and the texture & vertical expression they give the tower(s).

Thanks for posting the photo of the model - that's awesome!

They turned the glass atrium between the towers into a trading floor.
