I'm surprised they actually put trees on top of the Woodward building like that. If they tried it here those trees would get blown off for sure!

How do they replace one if it dies?

You would have to crane it up.

Or... just plant a seed? Sure there'd be a gap for awhile, but that far in the air would be really be that noticeable?

Pull it up via the window washing crane? Bring a decent sized sapling up in the freight elevator? There are any number of ways to replace it I would imagine.

There are some trees at the top of Shangri-La that are getting decently tall too.

Lower it down from a helicopter? They do the opposite for some forestry operations in BC.

Sweet Hamilton angle, probably my favourite I've seen of the larger skyline.

Hunter Street bike lanes disappearing at Catharine. I cry every time

Funny you mention that. We were just in Hamilton last week, and I found myself feeling quite impressed by the evidence of the "road diet" initiatives that some people in city hall have clearly pushing been for and getting approved. By comparison with how things were for all time up until maybe ten years ago, there really is a sense now that non-motorized vehicles aren't being catered to exclusively anymore.

Lots of streets are starting to feel less like highways and more like integral parts of the real estate of the neighbourhood. We drove the length of James from the mountain down to Pier 8 (and we were really impressed by that--Hamilton's waterfront is turning into a pleasurable place to be), and then back up Bay to my old high school at Cannon ("the Jail"), and for much of the trip the it felt like pedestrians and cyclists were being accommodated in a way they never were before.

Granted, it's frustrating when bike lines suddenly stop, but on the whole the situation appears quite "glass-half-full" to me.
