^Exactly. Saskatoon has a lot of quite tall apartment buildings which aren't represented in the diagram section which many people look at. Adding up some scores for the top-ten tallest buildings in cities, I find the following comparisons:

Regina: 725m
Saskatoon: 657m

*I used Wikipedia's lists of tallest buildings to calculate and looked at the Prairie cities and then a few others for comparison purposes. Regina and Saskatoon are pretty much a push really, but the spacing and type dramatically alter perceptions.

Looks like that new building at Canterbury isn't going much deeper than one level of underground parking. Digging seems to have stopped.

My time is spent evenly between Regina and Saskatoon. Whenever I am in downtown Regina, it seems like I am in a relatively large city because of all the glass office towers in its midst. When I am in downtown Saskatoon, it seems like a glorified Moose Jaw due to its historic appearance.

Both CBDs possess each their own unique charm and splendour.

We may as well acknowledge the gorilla in the room......Saskatoon might be a bigger city but Regina is better endowed.

I would agree with the Moose Jaw part but not really the historic part. Saskatoon is spread out because of policy rather than history.

I'm not sure if anyone noticed but Harvard's Westerra plan has been released on the city's site. It is designed as a 10-20 year build out. It will be interesting to see if it goes as planned with the slow-down that is occurring.

Nope. (Unless that person considers a four-storey structure as being a "highrise". Lol!)

Saskatoon had an incredible residential highrise boom during the '70s/80s though. Office buildings? Not so much. (Conversely in Regina for the same time period.)

I would agree with your assessment of Regina feeling more like a big north american city. When I stay in the Hotel Sask when visiting, the view of glass is impressive. However....venture downtown in the evening and Saskatoon feels more like a big city hands down! It has more of a european take with lower buildings of which many have historic fronts on 2nd, 3rd and 21st street. Take a walk down 2nd Ave and it is full of new restaurants, pubs, lounges, boutiques and there is no parking to be found at night with sidewalks bustling with night time activity. My friends and colleagues from Regina are unanimous that s'toon downtown core has an energy that Regina currently does not have. I can see that changing in Regina with more downtown residents and the work in front of Hanlon's (?) bar...but it has a long way to go to match the vibe of Saskatoon. Regina dowtown is more like Calgary that tends to feel like it empties out at 5pm....BUT, like I said I think that is changing. Would be great for our province to have the 2 largest cities bustling with activity at night!!

I like the look of Regina's downtown, but right now like the feel of saskatoons. BTW....love the comment about Regina's endowment...haha!

Not accurate at all: I count 7 buildings over 20 storeys in Saskatoon (+2 proposed). Regina has 6 (+3 proposed).

According to the pages above, Saskatoon has 47 buildings with 10 storeys or more. Regina has 49 buildings with 10 storeys or more, plus 2 under construction.

There hasn't been any buildings more than 20 floors erected in Saskatoon since 1983. And only one, possible two, proposed.

I agree Regina's skyline has a special glitzy esthetic appeal that Saskatoon can't match, but S'toon has that European pedestrian vibe, especially in summer.
