It has been open for a month or two now. Cars are already in the lot. I think they are sharing the location at the Moncton Auto Mall. I am not positive though.

This house has now been removed. I wonder if this is an indication that redevelopment is imminent?

We may have a winner in the ongoing saga of where they're going to build the new NBLC in NW Moncton:

This is the lot in front of the trailer park opposite Sheraton Green and the PJC pharmacy.

Rendering of the proposed new NBLC store.

Proposed site plan. Note that the entrance into the lot is immediately across from Sheraton Green, which is an already signalized intersection. Access and egress into this new store therefore shouldn't be a problem.......

Maybe they'll put in a really high fence at the back of the property as a visual screen........

I think the owners of Valhalla Place were just seeking approval from the PAC to alter the footprint of their strip mall in a "hail Mary" attempt to try and keep NBLC from moving. I'm pretty sure the post above reflects NBLC's preferred plan.

Hmm, I thought Sheraton Green was supposed to be extended through to Mailhot and Glencairn. That seems far less likely now though. I thought that maybe they were going to extend Sheraton Green through the trailer park by acquiring it or some other means. That's the impression I got by looking at the Future Roads Map section of the Moncton Municipal Plan on page 127 of 171.
http://www.moncton.ca/Government/Departments/Urban_Planning/Land_Use_Planning/Municipal_Plan.htm
Unless they alter the parking lot at some point to allow the street to continue through.

Good point.

To be honest though, I would be surprised if they ever connect Glencairn and Mailhot. While this is the obvious thing to do (and I support this), I know for a fact there would be vehement opposition from the denizens of the western part of Mailhot to this ever happening. There would be howls of outrage over the perceived increase in traffic, and the likely decrease in property values (upper class homes suddenly coming into intimate contact with a lower middle class neighbourhood).

It would take a city council with considerable balls to allow this to happen. The easiest thing to do is to cave in to the opposition, just like they did with the debacle over connecting Casino Drive to Twin Oaks.......

Yes. Although they could still extend Glencairn east more and then turn it south to develop some of that parcel of land and then Sheraton Green could still link up with it. They could leave a small wooded divider in between development and their properties if they were concerned with property values. Either way it's quite a good sized parcel of land to leave untapped and undeveloped in such a prime area of Moncton.

The land that is undeveloped at the Moment that would face Glencairn Drive/Mailhot Ave. Is currently for sale, and the cost of finishing that small portion of road is to be divided by the Seller, and Purchaser. The Land is, or at leased was owned by the same owner/owners of Marsh Trailer Park, and is still considered to be part of the park despite being undeveloped land.

You think the city would take the opportunity to close off marsh street and and have one less random left hand turning traffic line up in this area. This whole end of mountain rd is a total disaster in urban planning, the amount of rear end accidents crazy. City needs to take a lesson from dieppe and or riverview and zone for commercial service blocks instead of 10km long strips traffic k-os on their main arteries. The marsh st trailer park would make a great local service commerical park.

Just saw this on Councillor (soon to be mayor) Dawn Arnold's update regarding council activities on her Facebook page:

We then had a bunch of resolutions that had come about in private sessions:
- 1. That TransAqua is Council's highest infrastructure priority;
- 2. That we will give the Moncton Miracles a $25,000 rent reduction;
- 3. That we will loan $167,000 to the Field of Dreams (an accessible ball field on the CN sport fields);
- 4. That Mapleton Lodge now be operated by Centennial Outdoor Centre Inc.;
- 5. That we agree to develop, in collaboration with the YMCA, a capital and operating partnership for the establishment of a YMCA in the North End;
- 6. That we do some land exchanges with CN for the Jonathan Creek improvements;
- 7. That we agree in principle with the MH35 proposal for a community and cultural centre, allowing MH35 to open discussions with the province (more on this soon);
- 8. That Council approve $7.2 million for the costs associated with the DT Centre Plaza and infrastructure (some of these changes came about as a result of public consultation -- for the overall plaza concept, but also a Wall of Fame and necessary infrastructure such as water, sanitary and storm sewers, electrical, traffic lights, bus lay-by).

So, it would appear that the original plan for a north end community centre has been abandoned in favour of a municipally supported satellite YMCA for that part of the city. I wonder what this means in terms of what type of services and amenities will be included in the building. Also, I wonder if they will still be going with the originally anticipated location next to Evergreen Park School? It will be interesting to see how this pans out in the future.........

There is now an "Acadian Construction" sign up on this lot next to Kim Long. It would appear that construction is now imminent (but for what???).

Stay tuned...........
