I'm glad Talisker, a local company, succeeded in buying The Canyons and not Vail. If Vail had purchased it, they would probably have stifled new development to keep it a smaller kid brother to their main Vail resort.

Talisker Mountain Inc (the actual name of the entity that now owns the canyons), is a subsidiary of Talisker Corp. which is a worldwide real estate investment company based out of Toronto. TMI was created by Talisker in 1999 when Talisker began the Empire Canyon project at Deer Valley and have since developedthe Tuyahe club east of PC. Both Vail and Talisker were interested in the canyons for their residential real estate potential, the ski resort is an amenity to them.

I thought Talisker was a larger company, but the article said they were HQ'd in PC, but that was just referring to the subsidiary that owns The Canyons... I see that now...

But I still believe that if Vail owned The Canyons, they would most likely develop it in such a way that it is always smaller and less important than Vail. A separate entity will try to compete more with Vail.

View 72 Corporate Center

View 72 Corporate Center
A new 5-story Office building(s) for the Midvile area.

http://images.google.com/imgres?imgu...IC:en%26sa%3DG

This Class A, 2 million square-foot Corporate Center is a revolution to the commercial industry. Centrally located near main freeways I-15, I-215 AND I-80, adjacent to planned TRAX stop (coming 2010). 20 % of the 87 acres is dedicated to open space. While having energy efficient and environmentally-responsible design, it supports the amenities of retail, restaurants and hotels onsite. It also includes parks, walking and biking trails and access to Jordan River Parkway.

I wounder if "View 72" means 7200 South. This sounds like a Office Park will look alot like the one that is in South Jordan near 10600 next to the Jordan River. ( That's where my wife works. ) LOL

The resort would be accessed from the wasatch back, which requires a major investment in a long road, but it can be done. I have skied in the area via snowmobile in the last two winters and the snow quality is typical Utah. The terrain is very similar to the Canyons, but the base would be about 1,000 feet higher (7500 feet) and the snow is much more consistent due to the lake effect pipeline that flows over the Bountiful bench. The owners have about 10 years of snow surveys that indicate an average of 450" at the top and about 400 at the base. The failure of the largest investment companies may put this off for a few years, but I think this has a very real chance of happening.

The Cottonwoods will not see any new resorts, but expansion is a very real possibility. Alta wants to expand, and owns the land to do it, onto the north side of LCC. This includes Grizzly Gulch and the Emma Ridge. Brighton has long wanted to expand into Snake Creek Canyon and eventually down into the Midway area. Both the Canyons and Park City Mountain Resort are trying to acquire land that is between the two resorts and expand onto it. Deer Valley is aggressively pursuing private property on and around the peak called "10420" on the south side of Gaurdsman Pass. SLC is trying to purchase as much land in Big and Little Cottonwood canyon watersheds to protect water quality and as been very successful in stopping a lot of development in the canyons. They thwarted two major propsoal by not granting access or purchasing land in Cardiff Fork and on the north side of BCC, which would have resulted in PCMR having a base in the canyon. Solitude is unlikely to expand, although the top of Silver Fork has always been desired by them. Powder Mt. is probably looking at the largest expansion and provide direct access to Cache Valley.
Cololi, just reading this post is making me uncontrollably excited for the upcoming season.

I love this pic of the #1 resort in North America "Deer Valley"

I am too, but the thought of some of these expansions sicken me. I think the Cottonwoods should pretty much remain as is in terms of ski area expansion. the north side of LCC should absolutely be off limits due to the shear numbers of backcountry skiers that use it for access into some of the best skiing in the world. The resorts have already claimed enough. Plus, more skiabel acres and lifts mean more uphill capacity which translates to more cars, more pollution, less public access and increase avalanche risks to uneducated backcountry travelers on the other side of the ridge due to the easy access that lifts provide.

But, still can't wait for the white stuff to fly! Last year I skied on Oct 7th. A mere three weeks away!

Why must someone bring this project up every other day? It gets annoying hearing about how everyone hates Sandy so much.

^^^^ bringing up the project is fine. This is a massive project that fits with the thread title. The "I hate Sandy" crowd are annoying, that is true, but the project should get play.

I agree. I almost have to think twice if I really want to post ANYTHING that is Sandy related knowing that the next ten or so posts will be all "Anti Sandy trash talk" But I know that there are a few of use that do care about other projects outside of downtown. And it does make sense to post these updates since it is the MSA thread.

I'm not trying to get people to like Sandy. But really for those who do hate Sandy...Yes we get it already. We've heard it all before first with the RSL stadium and now this.

This thread was meant for projects that are non-downtown,. but still within the metro area. It's not meant to be a "I Hate Sandy thread" and I don't want it to turn into that. Otherwise we might as well start up a Sandy hate thread for those who feel they need to rant about something he or she does not like about Sandy.

Really enough is enough already.

Building a warehouse? Salt Lake-Provo is among best bets

http://www.heraldextra.com/content/view/281643/17/

mindmatrix.net

The Salt Lake City-Provo area is one of the nation's best for building a western U.S. distribution center, according to a study by a New Jersey-based corporate site selection firm.

You guys are right.. Maybe we should all stop picking on Sandy for a week and maybe switch to a city like Lehi and Gehry for being about as crazy as they come.

PS- the Simpson's thing on Gehry was hilarious. Instead of using a crumpled peace of paper, he used building blocks for inspiration on the Lehi project.
