Going to be a bit of an edgelord with my opinion on this, but here goes:
Telus Sky is overrated and gets attention because it's different, not because it's great. 20 years from now Telus Sky will have the same effect that those overwrought pomo towers from the 80s and 90s do, they look really outdated these days. Sort of how the Hyatt looks in the skyline now, although maybe not quite that bad.
By contrast, Brookfield Place is a tour de force that will be a point of pride in the skyline for however long it stands. It's as close to perfect as office towers get in this country. It doesn't try to be flashy but that's part of the appeal... it demonstrates excellent design in an understated way.
Brookfield is as much a trendy design as Telus Sky. Both are far from perfect. Telus has some awkward sides inherent to the mixed usage. Brookfield tapering could have been more dynamic and, while the skin is very pleasing, it's a standard single skin used over and over. Both should age gracefully and be appreciated (by the likes that appreciate the modern era) long after trends have moved on.
Stantec is one that will not age gracefully if we can say it has any grace right now. It's just really tall. It's finishes are higher quality than Aura College Park. Nevertheless, I feel they are on par with each other aesthetic wise.
My least favourite design decision is the carbuncle elevator core.
Telus Sky has reached its final height, among the titans of the Calgary Skyline...

Yeah there's been a few work stopages throughout construction, this is the latest one. I have noticed work starting to progress again the past couple weeks though. It's just the business amenities level and the rooftop amenities level left to go!

Damn, I don't like having this YSL thing go up. It just seems like a missed opportunity for something better for the city, just my two cents. I also just don't lie having another site under construction on Yonge (right in downtown)...just a pet peeve.
Great black and white image, wow. I'm more of the type that likes a building for it's use for the community and city....YSL just seems like it could've been much more, like a true extension of Ryerson's campus. I'm not a height fan at all....especially when you have a project like the above.
