I can’t believe how long this is taking. It’s unreal. Still faster than the hotel we have over here that’s been at ground level for 6 years though lol

Good pic. That's the most work they've done in 3 months, for sure. Posts up to the 20th floor north tower plus four more floors of walls/windows, and south podium posts going up, too. They're flying now, haha

The size is what it is. The problem with these towers going up all around the Prairies is the lack of window symmetry from the sizes of openings to a consistent style of window and quality cladding. These common random splashes of colour makes them even worse.

Looks to me like they've added 4 floors since the June 4th pictures that I posted on June 6th. 4 floors in 12 weeks isn't exactly flying along, but it is somewhat better than the glacial pace at which they had been proceeding. Pretty sure that they still have the "coming 2022" text on the hoarding.

No shlt! I was in Saskatoon 10 days ago to attend a wedding. Previous to that I was in town about six months ago. When we drove by this project I thought to myself, WTF this thing has hardly moved since the last time I was here.

I wonder if the slow pace may have something to do with the fact they are using structural steel beams as apposed to concrete. It shouldn't you would think.

I was expecting the steel construction to give them a quicker construction cycle than cast-in-place concrete, though that has not been the case. If you look back at my post from April 7/23, you can get some insight to the rather "unique" method of construction being used. Above the parkade levels, they are using a steel frame to support thin precast slabs which then receive a concrete topping. It's not a system that I've seen used here before, but it seems like it actually should go along quickly. Not sure if it's an issue of lack of personnel or lack of finances, but this technique is not proving to be a time saver.

It might be the size of the building deceiving you because they are twice as large as the communist block condos next to it, probably larger balcony doors too. Sorry that it’s not pure glass modernism from toronto selling at $1M a unit.

And as mentioned by others before, this is a rental building, not a high end condo. The HVAC system that would be required to heat/cool larger expanses of glass while still conforming to the national energy code would be very expensive. Not feasible for rental units at an affordable price point.

Yup. I think if you look at other cold weather cities in North America (Chicago, NYC, Toronto, etc.) only luxury buildings get the full glass treatment that most buildings in Vancouver or San Francisco have. Newer mid- or low-market projects have a lot of spandrel and less glass.

Saskatoon can't support a lot of luxury residential or commercial projects, hence why River Landing is one of the few developments that is 100% glass.

Has anyone been close enough to see if they've finally, like totally, reached ground level? Last I saw there was still a ground gap on the south-west side. I would think they'd want to close that up before the snow falls, but of course they play by their own schedule here.

The north tower is getting up there and visible from a distance now. Anyone driving on the east side can take a photo?

Do you recall, or could you tell if the below grade work was complete? Unlike most projects, they still had a lot of below grade work to complete a few months ago while construction was advancing above grade.

Good point. I didn't get a close enough view to tell. I had somehow forgotten about Baydo's unorthodox methods!

I take a lot of pictures, just nothing of this project lately.

The biggest urban development in Sask at the moment and it doesn't even get a monthly picture update. No ongoing discussion on what are obviously interesting construction methods. This is dead space, and I'm hurt by our collective stupidity. How high is it now? Who fucking knows? Over and out. Ban me, PLEASE!

Construction Update October 14, 2023
My apologies Saskabusher, I know how you feel I love coming to this forum and seeing our city grow.
I haven't had the chance to come by and take a picture of the site because I started College in September and I've been busy with that.
Anyways, I think they've added maybe 1 floor since my August update.

Looks like 2 floors since your August 25th photo. Still won't be topped off this calendar year at the current pace.
