Not to derail the topic, but I would suggest everyone visit there at some point. It is a very lovely city. I got sent there on a random business trip about a month ago and was pleasently surprised by what I found.

When I get home I'll post my picture leaving the Fort Pitt Tunnel.

Yeah, they raised both cranes on Sunday and Monday. I took a picture of it on Sunday but it was from the iPhone and crappy so I never posted it.

BTW, that awesome photo earlier from flickr, does anyone know where that was taken from? It's too far south to be from Zilker Clubhouse, isn't it?

That is Crockett High School to the left. My old school.
This is a first. A view of a downtown building from the jogging track at Crockett. It sure would have made things more interesting if the building had been there when I was in school. lol
This is from the Shell station at South First and William Cannon. This is across the street from Bedichek Middle School, which was my middle school, and the filming location of Dazed and Confused! You can see Frost of course too, and I hadn't ever noticed it, but if you look to the left on the horizon, that looks like 300 West Sixth. 360, One American Center, Frost and now The Austonian all show up there, but I didn't realize anything shorter than that would.
This was taken at Turtle Creek Boulevard and Cougar Drive. You can see Frost at this spot too, but it wasn't showing up. The Austonian partially blocks it, and the trees do too. It's quite noticeable at night, and in the winter the view is even better. This is right next to Odom Elementary School, which was my school. It's funny, but all three of my schools that I went to now have some pretty noticeable skyline views right next to them.
This last one is from Emerald Forrest Drive. And oddly enough, the best view I saw that day was right in my neighborhood.
Your pics from your schools inspire me to tell you to do something. In my school, Mills Elementary on the corner of Escarpement Rd. and Davis Lane, go to the track area right next to the trees to the east of it. There's a skyline view from I think 300 West Sixth to Four Seasons Residences. I want you to take a picture from there.
I have been looking in the skyline view from there since 1st grade. Pinnacle Campus would be to the left of the skyline view in the trees. If you can't see the skyline from there next to the trees, scoot yourself to the west. The skyline is so gorgeus from there. It would be great if you take a picture from there.

Spotted it from the bridge next to the dam on Lake Travis. I forgot what it was called though.... The Austonian was sticking up fairly nicely.

Of course. The Austonian is way taller than the average skyscraper height for downtown. (I would say about 360 feet is the average)

They did, definately... Update thread saying crane sections were delivered to the site.

Wow. Look at that crane raise. Looks a bit weird though. And seriously, that IPhone shoot is not crappy. It's good. And where did he yellow crane go???

Was DT today for the first time in a while. Coming from Ben White on I 35, I was surprised how few good looks I got of the Austonian until I was practically due east of it. Even the Four Seasons condo blocks it. Legacy really looks tall where it is. I envy you DT'ers, but when you only see DT every month or so, the change is REALLY dramatic as oppose to the gradual changes ya'll see. Even with the updated pics, which BTW I really appreciate guys, you really have to be there to appreciate how big DT is getting. Ditto on the background pic. (sunset DT...WOW!!) W from I35...showing big time.

As promised: Dramatic introduction to Pittsburgh. All we need to do is surround downtown with 800 foot tall hills and we can pull it off.

That view is literally seconds after emerging from the Fort Pitt tunnel.

This Pic is likely taken from the corner of a parking garage behind the Texas land and Cattle off Mopac and 2244. Thats were I take a lot of pics from and it matches the angle/hight, but I think this guy has a better zoom as mine does not get that close. Great Pic!

Its possibly from the top of the parking garage of the Plains Capital Bank Bldg. on Bee Caves Road in Rollingwood.

I personally know there is a great view of the skyline from there.

That guy had another skyline photo in his set and he mentioned it was the last one of the evening before a security guard ran him off, so it probably was at a parking garage somewhere as others have speculated.

And now a plug for the pro-environment AND pro-development folks: Part of what makes that picture work so well is how it is framed by all the green at the bottom! Don't forget that is part of what makes our city so special: how much green space remains around downtown! Remember that in all the "tree-hugger" debates that will surely come up as we look to infill and build up! There has to be a way to balance both. Plug over.

Wow, I lived in Pittsburgh for six years in the 1980's, and your comment reminds me how I still remember every single detail of the moment the airport bus came out of the Fort Pitt tunnel and I got that first view of downtown. I was moving there from Austin, sight unseen.

Could you imagine how lovely it would look if we had One PPG Place next to the Frost Bank Tower. I think the combination would look very regal.

I saw downtown tonight from East Riverside, east of I-35, and holy smokes, the skyline is looking impressive from there. It seriously looked like another city. I couldn't believe how big it looked. The fact that it was at night added to the looming quality of it.

I moved to Austin today and haven't seen the downtown skyline since SXSW. It's really starting to shape up very nicely, especially with the Austonian in place.

I hear you. It's my favorite view of downtown too. But I have never said it on these boards.
