But yes, 1.1 is substantial and still far too many people I know fly YYC due to connections and or direct flights.

What has happened to YEG communication in the past year or so. They are just scrambling for new. Are they just trying to fill the void, in their attempt at social media?

The Edmonton Sun is not "social" media.

Also I wonder if the quotes are accurate given the Sun reporting previously...lets not forget how they gave fat Chuck and is loser friends lots of ink re closing City Centre Airport. That said, my guess it is a misquote and deliberate setup on the Q&"A". Officials at EIA have in the past been cautious about making flippant statements on new air service and with Ms.Bernard being "quoted" and in charge of communications something does not seem right.

Well, based on the EIA's record for rubbish news releases over the past, mmm, 2 years, I am going to go with random Internet dude.

YEG also claims they have "12 US non-stop flights and 11 international non-stop flights out of the EIA year-round." what does this even mean? If they are referring to the number of routes, this is grossly over-stated. Bad reporting or bad marketing / communications staff. Perhaps a bit of both!

US Departures
SEA, SFO, LAX, DEN, LAS, PSP, ORD, MSP, IAH, PHX, OGG and MCO. The last two are seasonal but still 10 routes with up to 25 transborder flights a day.

International
Cabo, Cancun, Puerto Vallarta, Huatulco, Liberia, London, Frankfurt, Mazatlan, Montego Bay, Panama City, Varadero

How is her comment grossly overstated?

Yes we should believe the random internet dude because the random internet dude makes a good point. If i was the "so-called" reporter for the Sun i would be asking why those London and New York routes have not started yet if the demand is there? Hilman please explain to me how the terminal expansion will result in those 2 new flights the executive mentioned. Unless British Airways starts new routes based on beautified terminals, i just don't see who else will start this route. Same thing with flights to New York. If it's slot availability at Newark then say so or say nothing at all but don't tie-in terminal expansion to flight expansion.

Actually, looking at her words now, the only thing i could see happening is Thomas Cook continuing their weekly flights through the winter. If this constitutes "an additional year-round non-stop flight" then dansk is right about the communication aspect.

BA did just receive and additional 6 landing slots at LHR from BMI yesterday, on top of a few more they just got a month or so ago.

I'm not disagreeing with your logic LO044, I'm just saying that since she stated that an extra flight to London is coming in her interview then I tend to believe her. Why did she say it? She could have easily fed us the usual bs that they are continuing to aggressively look for new routes, yet she didn't.

BA has it's own terminal. BMI is Star Alliance

YEG has 9 year-round US destinations... SEA, SFO, LAX, DEN, LAS, ORD, MSP, IAH and PHX. PSP is also seasonal (kicks off this Sunday for the winter season). The daily tally is closer to 20 (19 in summer, 21 in winter) not 25.

International - Year-round service to CUN, PVR and LHR all other routes you mentioned are seasonal and FRA is gone.

That is why I say her comments are grossly overstated...

NB: there is an additional weekly TS LGW flight loaded for summer 2012 (Mondays and Tuesdays - one shared with YVR). But this too is seasonal.. this could be seen as replacing the lost weekly FRA capacity. However, TS has not 100% finalised their Summer 2012 plans quite yet.

Agreed. At the end of the day, YEG is a good little airport that serves Edmonton fairly well. It is a big improvement compared to just 10 years ago. For the city of our size we're doing good (city our size in Canada)

Just returned from SW Florida - and do they have a ton of "International" airports in such a small area. Naples, Ft.Myers, Sarasota-Bradenton - found out they have flights to Europe on an airline calling itslef "Comefly" - direct to Copenhagen and Frankfurt. Not only does a 3 county area with less than 1.2 million people have 3 intl airports, Tampa is only 2 hrs away, Orlando -3, Lauderdale, W. Palm Beach and Miami 4hrs. It's insane the connections those Yanks have!

Changed planes at YEG Saturday, en route from YVR - YQR, and so had a bit of time to snap a few shots. If you look carefully, you can see the structure for the cladding on the tower.
