This thing needs to join the list if it's not already here.

This is actually a flattering angle for it.

I agree with KWoldtimer. It's a bit busy but nowhere near the fugliness of the Rooms. Reminds me of Bow Valley College in Calgary.

The corrugated metal behind that SAAN sign. Epitomizes the awfulness of dying strip malls.

The only SAAN store I've ever seen is in Drumheller. I guess they have them in nowheresville Ontario too.

There used to be one in Athabasca. The building still has the same siding.

One of the most fantastically awful buildings I've ever seen. Seemingly inspired by the shower scene of the movie Psycho, it's the slashed floral patterned shower curtain of Kitchener:
https://www.google.ca/maps/@43.4524762,-...stZLrnKX81h0A8Q!2e0!7i13312!8i6656?hl=en

The architect for the YMCA in Stratford sat down with his commission, and thought to himself: "Eureka! I've found my vision! Fuck streetscapes, fuck the pedestrian experience, and fuck everything to do with how a building sits in and interacts with its environment. I'm going to produce a mini-brutalist building inspired by the dadaist art piece my three-year-old put together with Lego this morning and position it at a jarringly stupid angle to the intersection it faces."
https://www.google.ca/maps/@43.3674114,-...V3y2VXg!2e0!7i13312!8i6656!6m1!1e1?hl=en

The high school I graduated from in Hamilton. Hideous from every vantage point, it's called the jail because it looks like the city jail (https://www.google.ca/maps/@43.2628536,-...McmRFkQ!2e0!7i13312!8i6656!6m1!1e1?hl=en), except the jail has more windows:
https://www.google.ca/maps/@43.2604703,-...hCFDRFQ!2e0!7i13312!8i6656!6m1!1e1?hl=en. (See what I did there? Which one is the jail, and which one is the high school? Heh...)

York Street in Hamilton was once a busy and somewhat seedy commercial strip of Victorian shopfronts, i.e. full-on southern Ontario urbanity at its best. Naturally, it had to be destroyed to create a wide, grand, American-style thoroughfare into the city to accommodate all the cars that eventually stopped coming into the bombed out downtown. Urban renewal, they called it:
https://www.google.ca/maps/@43.2654086,-...AGHluSlFUM0uIqBuSnyrw!2e0!7i13312!8i6656
What it used to look like (second and third pics in post): http://skyscraperpage.com/forum/showpost.php?p=5426177&postcount=21.

Back to Stratford. You know what we should put up on the corner of a major intersection after tearing down an old building of Victorian shopfronts? A design abortion inspired by an Alpine ski holiday, set back from the street with drive-up parking, of course.
https://www.google.ca/maps/@43.3714289,-...-VM-M4RotYLHLwSW2cnbA!2e0!7i13312!8i6656

And finally, Waterloo. We want overseas student money, and we want it now. Because fuck what this city looks like. K-W has always been kinda ugly anyway, and nobody around here cares, so why the fuck should we? Just slap'em up and keep that overseas student money rolling in!

I actually kinda like that first one. The student housing in Waterloo though once again proves to be the diarrhea of architecture.

Seriously? Maybe the Street View image doesn't do it justice. It's even more dreadful in real life. Total design fail. The architect needs to have his/her license revoked for this one, and the people who approved it should hold their heads in shame.

Then again, we are talking about Kitchener-Waterloo here, the place where urban design/life goes to die...

Then again, we are talking about Kitchener-Waterloo here, so...
The form looks nice and modern and the materials look good. I can see the pattern being polarizing but compared to the rest of Kitchener / Waterloo can you really complain?

Edit: Why are Kitchener and Waterloo always connected when people talk about one or the other? Are they really close neighbours? Are they like St. Paul and Minneapolis?

Are we looking at the same thing? The building is draped in a shower curtain. A floral patterned shower curtain. It's seriously, stupendously, vomitously ridiculous. Kinda like a lime-green leisure suit from the 1970s.

Yes, they form one integral urban area. There are signs indicating the boundaries on some of the major streets, but if you don't notice the signs you wouldn't really know where one ends and the other begins until you get to an intersection that's obviously in one city or the other.
