Yes, there certainly aren't any other examples in town of the city selling a property for nothing and letting the new owner clean it up *cough*McCormicks *cough*.

The problem here is, as jammer says, if this parking lot is flood plain and development will be difficult to get passed, despite and examples in recent history of flooding actually happening there, what can be done with it and how much is the city going to spend to clean it up without being able to make money back on it?

LFP article on concepts for Fairmount PS property.

Interesting note:
An affordable housing development would be served by a new road. The plan takes in the closed Bob Hayward YMCA, but McAlister said there are no plans for the building as of now and the YMCA maintains ownership of the property.

Also noting plans to widen Hamilton Rd but no mention of how far east the widening would go. Ideally Hamilton Rd should be widened to where it joins Commissioners Rd but that would require the Thames River bridge to be widened or replaced and the Pottersburg Creek bridge to be widened or replaced. A good first phase would be to widen Hamilton up to the new Gore Rd roundabout planned sometime in the future.

That's going to annoy a lot of people when Knights games are on. That parking lot completely fills up.

Surface parking lots suck. That lot might fill up a few times a month, but most days it's a big empty hole on the edge of downtown. We need to keep encouraging development on lots like this one so the City can more easily make the case for a proper downtown parking garage.

If people want to see Knights games they'll find another place to park, or better yet, find another way downtown. Catering to suburbanites driving habits and their expectations of convenience is a losing battle for any downtown.

I don't disagree that surface parking lots suck, but the city should be create the solutions before creating the problem. We don't have the public transit infrastructure to get people downtown for events, currently there aren't options other than driving.

I would love for the city to build a parking garage to replace a few surface lots, but that should be done before removing the surface lots. Also it is a lot more than just a few times a month that that lot fills up, it is every Knight's home game and any other sold out event.

I suspect that's one of the cheapest lots to park in which would be one reason why it fills up. It's obviously convenient for people in the west end to get out of there as well, which would be another reason it's full. I suspect there are lots of other lots to park in that maybe cost more. The last 2 events I went to at CLP, I parked in the Renaissance tower across the road, and down in the lot beside Call the Office. That lot wasn't full, and this was a full concert.

This is why, I think its $6 or $7 which is cheap. It is also easier to get out of downtown quick so while its a short walk compared to the closer parking that is likely $20 most people part there as you said especially if you are living in the west end.

A development would be great there,

Lots of work continues on the former IBM office building conversion on Dufferin Ave. They have started delivering the single piece shower/bath units. Many of the new windows are now installed and a lot of the interior rough ins are progressing fast.

not quite tiny homes, but in a circle not too far from my neighborhood, the homes are smallish on undersized lots. You can pack in 2-3 times more homes.

My wife and I looked on this street for our first home when we got married 30 years ago. Many of them were built by Norquay, which is who we ended up buying from in east London when they built a few dozen homes on Fleming Drive (the site of the infamous St Patricks Day riot - fortunately after we had moved away).

Looks like the City is hitting the brakes on moving ahead with turning the Municipal parking lot on Queens in OEV into affordable housing. Sounds like alot of push back from folks and the BIA.

Micro Shelters location announced.

Sixty modular shelters are proposed for the city-owned property, northeast of the Max Brose Drive and Cheese Factory Road intersection – a sparsely populated area near the city’s southeastern edge.

Have started to finish off the trim around the new windows on the south and west side of the former IBM building. Still have the north facade to start on and final exterior trim around the entrance and ground floor.
