The Government of Alberta recently ditched its iconic, modern wordmark:

for this trendy and generic one:

EDIT: Here's the 1960s version. I'm not a fan, it's not very polished compared to the others.

Best coat of arms in Canada imo. Maple leaves a big plus.

edit: consider Toronto's... is that a bird-clawed beaver?

Thought I am loathe to come to the defence of he, Canadian English does consider the spelling programme to be correct as well. I was taught it that way in school in the 1990s. Only a computer program is always spelled in the shorter way.

I think this is a by-product of bilingualism, as the French word is programme as well.

True, but programme is so seldom used in Canada that one would think it's incorrect. I consider it similar to the pretentious use of archaic English spellings in order to appear cultured and upscale (see here). I've never been keen on the British and their love for superfluous letters.

Programme is the proper Canadian spelling.

Actually, it is very common - I have seen it used in things written by Ottawa civil servants, for example (DFAIT in particular).

I see it fairly often and to be honest, I can't think of another time before now when someone actually did complain about it being spelled that way.

^ Great post.

Region of Waterloo (KWC):

Kitchener (City): The clock/bell tower in the logo is from the old city hall, which was demolished. The tower is now in Victoria Park.

Waterloo (City): Looks like an office supply company's logo from the 90's.

Crest and "New Logo" of UW:

Goddamn I hate the new logo.

Town of Oakville logo:

Oakville: the "town" of 180,000 people.

Halton Region: Includes Oakville, Burlington, Milton, Halton Hills. (Couldn't find a bigger version)

The Coat of Arms of Newfoundland and Labrador.

It looks a little cartoonish because it was unveiled by King Charles I of England on November 13, 1638, before they could draw, lol. All the symbols are royal symbols of England and Scotland, and the shield may also depicted being supported by two Beothuk First Nations with a Caribou on top.

And the motto, "Quaerite prime Regnum Dei" ("Seek ye first the Kingdom of God").

Which the airport authority apparently took to heart:

The new logo has actually grown on me a fair bit. It's a lot softer and less corporate than the old one.

If we're going into other things:

We definitely need a new airport logo. It's so 90s.

I wish that organizations would not fix things that ain't broken. I'm looking at Alberta and University of Waterloo in particular. Some logos definitely need revision. Some are just classic or beautiful and should never change. Can you imagine CN revamping it's logo?

i can assure you that the old logo is just as trendy and generic, at the time it was made.

Case in point: "Western University". What a terrible decision made without any student input.

Holy ****. I *love* Saint John's logo. It makes me want fishsticks... but I genuinely LOVE it.

For Canada's ugliest suburb, a distinctly atrocious logo...

Laval, ville du futur.
