It looks good with the roof over the stands... the place looks a little more enclosed. However, I will say the beams over the south end seem oddly superfluous.

So, unless I'm mistaken, that will bring the total LED-lighted stadiums in Canada to 2. I'm interested to see how it'll change things/what they'll do with them.

I think he is referring to the coloured LED lights, IIRC the stadium lighting is not LED, that will still only be the new Mosaic

Correct on the second part, the BMO lights were saved from the previous setup, not sure if the first part isn't lights with gels, (don't know)

Ah, gotcha. So it looks like new Mosaic may be the only stadium in Canada with LED lighting for quite some time then. Other than as part of major renos, I can't see other stadiums installing them, and as most have already been refreshed/newly built, further changes are prob unlikely.

The Saddledome has by far the smallest lower bowl in the NHL. 6000 seats in total I believe. A typical modern NHL arena has 9000+ in the lower bowl. Here alone the Flames are losing out on a substantial amount of game revenue.

They also have most of their suites shoehorned into the lower bowl. Suite holders share concourse space and washroom facilities with the regular patrons so it lacks that exclusive feel that the corporate client desired. Add in another 1000 or so club seats (not sure what the current arena has....1500?); 500 - 1000 loge seats; increase the number of concessions and points of sale by 50 - 100%, increase advertising in the arena by 50 - 100% with greater opportunities (tvs in concourse, larger scoreboard, naming rights to concourses, more electronic ribbons) and I would guess a new arena could increase revenues by $20 - $30 million annually.

Thanks for the link. If I was a citizen of Ottawa I'd be leery of that LRT offer. Wonder if that's one of the reasons why they didn't outright reject the other proposal.

It's been bugging me since epm posted that pic... why wouldn't they assemble the scoreboard frame inside the arena instead of outside of it?

Maybe assembling it indoors would get in the way of the construction that's going on inside?

It gets put together once at the manufacturers yard (YESCO in Las Vegas, in this case, which is pictured) to make sure all the pieces fit & work together, then it's taken apart and shipped to Edmonton for re-assembly inside Rogers Place.

If you are referring to arenas then yes. I doubt it will be bigger than some of the monsters in NFL stadiums. But simular to tampa and colorado's NHL arena's in a more 4:3 build and all 4 sides will be the same size. I would recon even Toronto holds more total screen square footage than both those arenas.
