I could care less about Stantec's height when you get to street level. Calgary blows Edmonton out of the water. There is too much decay around downtown Edmonton, namely the Quarters, the area north of Rogers Place, etc.

Meanwhile Stantec does more for downtown than any single tower built in Calgary. The residents, the shops, the district itself will be a huge step forward for the chuck.

I think I like Stantec more IRL than I first did in the renderings. It looks good in an understated way, and the effect on the skyline is phenomenal.

Yes, Stantec's height is impressive, not so much is its utilitarian design, though the west aspect that faces into the plaza is okay in my books. I prefer the looks of the JW Marriott and its somewhat more articulated design. I really don't give a sh*t about the height hype, but great to see Edmonton rising up! Now, if the 80 storey Alldritt tower proceeds, I'm hoping for a decent looker of a design!

There there, Edmonton will hopefully get a decent looking tower or two someday. *rubs head*

^ As a somewhat impartial observer in this race, I would agree with the sentiment that Calgary has a damn impressive forest of a skyline. It's the skyline you would usually expect of a city with 3 to 4 times the metro population, i.e. Calgary stands out way more from the pack of 1 to 2 million metro cities than Toronto does from its cohort of, say, 4 to 8 million metro cities. I don't think it's a controversial position to hold.

It could absolutely be more condescending, yes, given the attempted condescension pervasive throughout his comment.

Can we keep this stupid Calgary v Edmonton nonsense out of this thread and try to stay focused on buildings? Thanks folks.

Ahem, new tallest outside of Toronto is pretty big news.

We would definitely be bragging about it... again!

There have certainly been some incredible developments in the last few years for both of Alberta's big cities. Incredible to see this happening through the updates provided by you folks.

You would think, I was up yesterday, it was pretty clear but alas Edmonton is in a basin so we are to low to see. However you can clearly see out past Wabumum to the west. Past Elk Island to the east. I hope to get up again and will bring my big lens and see how far we really can see.

It is about 250km from Edmonton to the closest mountain, so even from the top of a 250m tower I don't think you would ever be able to see that far, don't think the atmosphere is that clear ever. The curvature of the earth would obscure them quite a bit as well.
