I think because of Vancouver's large mass of buildings, a lot of photos are taken at quite a distance, which would give the effect of 1 massive blob. Pictures of Manhattan look like a giant blob of concrete, when that's clearly not the case. Because Calgary is mainly a tightly packed office core, you can get a good close up of the Skyline, hence it gives the appearance of more variety. Though Calgary's star office tower, "The Bow", is seafoam green.

These are some of the best shots of Vancouver. Lot's of colour today, although the building on the corner of Rogers Arena looks really bland.

Well, they are, but the area under them is surprisingly lively and interesting.

If you reread my post I said buildings built in the last 20 years not every building in the city.

Since 1990 nearly every new building in Toronto and Vancouver have been of the blue-green glass monotony type. Just look at all the variety and character of tall buildings in the West End pre-1980 as opposed to the blue glass along Georgia from SP to downtown built after 1995.

^ In my opinion, blue-green glass towers are beautiful. Much more so than 1950-1980 era concrete.

And honestly, that is just a representation of when Van and Toronto have has their large building cycles (particularly residential).

Almost every city in the world has a couple dominant residential building styles representing their waves of mass expansion. This is nothing new. Given many of the alternatives, the Van / Toronto style is actually quite nice.

Seriously, the vast majority of high rise residential buildings here in Asia (Japan, Korea, China) in comparison are super ugly.

Few if any blue green towers were built in Toronto during the 1990s. Even now, the style may dominate particularly in certain areas but, I would not say it's even close to every building.

Blame the Mid-West. That's where most of Canada's pollution comes from I do believe.
