I wrote an article about the history of that parking lot once.

Photo from a Sun article a couple days ago. The hole they were digging yesterday is right where they're removing the concrete/asphalt in the picture.

One quote from the article: “All I can tell you is there will be an announcement with a lot more detail on the project coming in the next month,” said Scott Brown, a True North spokesman.

Looks of action continuing on site today. In that photo, the are installing wooden construction fencing along the Graham Ave side. You can see the zoom boom crane. That's continuing on today. Along with the asphalt removal. Drill rig is also situated on site, awaiting movement to determine what the next step is. Likely shoring piles.

I wonder why Longboat is putting off the announcement even though they're already apparently chugging along with construction?

Not really sure. Maybe awaiting shiny new renders?

I took a walk through MTS Centre skywalk at lunch. They had a steel beam, looked like for shoring possibly, laying on the ground at the NE corner near the hole. They were wrapping it with orange tarps for hoarding. And had a large heater running near by. Why would they be hoarding a single beam laying on the ground?

If they are driving it down for shoring, they probably don't want the steel to be ambient temperature. It might screw around with the driving parameters if you have steel at ~-20C driving into the ground below frost level.

Interestingly enough, the 'hunk of cement sculpture with the old Jets logo embedded' on it is still on site. Seems they just keep moving it around out of their way as they go. If they didn't want it, you'd think it woulda been hauled away by now.

Might be one of those fun jobsite things. Kind of like the inukshuk on Higgins at the demo yard.

Actually surprised if the concrete block is to be kept that they don't temporarily move it out of the way by putting it in front of the Tavern United door.

Ironing things out with an anchor tenant before they make it official?

So today the government officially backs TNS. Wonder what kind of time table we're looking at for construction now. This project is starting to get real guys!

^ Concur, it's happening now. Lots of equipment, workers and activity on the site. Hoarding is going up. It looks like they're well past the preliminary investigations at this point.

I wonder if they'll get a website up and running anytime soon. If this is the announcement Scott Brown was talking about, possibly may have one go live today. Or else we'll have to wait until "later this month" for something.

Website or not, thank God they aren't going to call it Sopo Square anymore. Can't wait to see some new renderings!

It is interesting that there is chatter in the media about the SHED being expanded. Very interesting considering the SHED is essentially the same concept as a urban reserve for a non-Aboriginal...
