In case you guys have not been there yet, try these Restaurants:

The Crepe Place: K Street and 9th. Great French Onion Soupe and Salade Nicoise. Crepes too, of course. Quirky and sometimes strange work staff, but always good food. Great Breakfast Specials during workweek.

Dad's: Sandwich and Salade shop. S Street between 13th and 14th Streets. Excellent sandwiches and always fresh salads. Hot, Cold, and Grilled. Family owned, super friendly folks.

Roxy: Fair Oaks Blvd, just west of Fulton/Munroe. Great Breakfasts! Good coffee. Near Booders Books.

Oz Korean BBQ: Bradshaw Rd near Folsom Blvd. Yummy! Tons o'food for the price and good food.

Has Anyone been to Crush 29/39 in Roseville?...or whatever its called.

The folks behind Dad's Deli's are opening up a restaurant in Land Park soon.
You can see the work is well under way... it's gonna be located in the spot
occupied by the former Silvia's Nicaraguan restaurant - and Mum's before
that, i believe. Right next to Freeport Bakery.

And speaking of which, has anyone else noticed the sign put up on the
soon to be doomed building at 19th and Broadway? It reads "Future home
of Freeport Bakery".

Family First, Says Baker

Sometimes, too much success can be, well, too much. That looks to be the case with downtown Sacramento's Real Pie Co. A hit since it opened last February, Real Pie Co. will sell its last "seasonally inspired pastry" on Saturday, Jan. 19, says proprietor Kira O'Donnell.

In what she acknowledges was an "agonizing decision," O'Donnell is closing the shop to devote more time and energy to her family, which includes two youngsters. The success of the shop, she indicates, was drawing too much of her attention to the potential detriment of her family's well being.

"It has been an amazing, exhilarating, fulfilling year, and I have never been happier in my professional life," says O'Donnell. "But my involvement in this project has taken a real toll on my family, and now I have to take responsibility for repairing the damage." Over the past year, the success of the shop allowed her to add seven employees, but the workload, which included finding locally produced fruits and other ingredients to feature in her pies, was too much.

On the up side, she plans to return to commercial pie baking in three years, when her children are older. "I'm keeping all my equipment. I will do it again," she vows. In the meantime, get your Shaker lemon, chocolate pudding and Cazuela pies now.

Movin' on up: This is move-in week for the first condo buyers at Sotiris
Kolokotronis' nearly finished project at 18th and L streets.

About 40 of the 92 "hybrid-loft" units have been sold. Among the buyers:
"some very, very well-known people," Kolokotronis says, without naming
names.

The building – called L Street Lofts – is completed except for the penthouse
units, which will be ready next month.

As for the street-level retail space, Ikon Boutique – an urban clothing shop
that just vacated space in Downtown Plaza – is taking about 1,800 square
feet on one side of the lobby. On the opposite side? Talks reportedly are
under way with a European-style eatery from the Bay Area. Stay tuned for
details.

Oh I don't think this is thing is exclusive or even particular to Sacramento. When you have a small business you have to expect that sort of thing.
But you could just a well say it's because they were all own by women. Now shoot me.

True, but this city seems to lose so many small business treausres because they're successful..

Either the owners decided it takes too much energy or the business is sold to a larger out of state business.. or (if it's a city sponsored event) the police will complain of crowds and close it down.
