What were they? I only ask because I know I don't like her for opposing the Stadium, and that when I met her in real life she came off as fake and plastic. Her policies and platform are barely on her website, so I want to be able to explain to neighbors and colleagues why they should take their vote somewhere else.

Oh yea 100% movies & shows are filmed here. Abbott Elementary & Always sunny in Philly take the cake.

However we dont have any Law & Order type show’s & people always say it’s because Philadelphia has a low clearance rate to solve crimes & I call BS

Dick Wolf could have easily made a Philly Law & Order & It would have been just as popping as NY

Cold Case is a pretty good procedural police drama. They did a lot of stories based on real stories like the boy in the box.

All the seasons are on HBO MAX now: https://www.hbomax.com/series/urn:hb...nMvbSdwwEAAAD8

The Laurel Rittenhouse lit up in the Philadelphia skyline for the first time by Philly SkyGuy, on Flickr

How could I not post this here. The Laurel has arrived into the nighttime skyline!

I watched the first few episodes, and then lost interest. But it's got an 86% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, so it was fairly well reviewed. It did do a nice job of showing off Philly and several of its neighborhoods, as I recall.

I dont totally agree with her take, but you would be naive to think many do not share her view. Don't shoot the messenger- there are lots of viewpoints out there that may not align with your own. A lot of folks will resent the notion of a mayor from the past jumping into a field that has the most # of qualified women in a city where a woman has never been mayor.

I think that is what is most likely to happen honestly. At the end of the day Nutter isnt going to be want to be perceived as a spoiler who helped prevent a woman from winning this race. I think Nutter can help Rynhart make the argument now isnt the time to hand over the government to someone who has no clue how to run a government like JEff Brown- I think the conflicts of interest and wealth are going to be the knock on Domb.

Yeah, it’s just sad that we live in an era where so many people would rather just vote on immutable characteristics or being “the first whatever…” instead of considering who is the most talented and qualified for the job.

As for The Inquirer, I think they’ve alienated the majority of their readership. Most of their Facebook comments are negative and overall their readership is down. I know several urban pragmatic Dems (pro-Nutter types) who don’t care for it anymore. And I suspect they’ve alienated their suburban independent and conservative readers over the years who, these days, just like to rant at it on Facebook. However, I agree with you that there are quite a few people in this city who share their sentiments.

Couldn’t Nutter just see how the primary goes and just run as an ‘independent’ if someone like Gym wins ?

Facebook comments are a well-known measurement of reality

And measurable readership numbers totally aren’t representative of reality either

I mean, if you’re going to put forward a counter argument, I might suggest going for the main point instead of side stepping with herrings…

I worked at the Inquirer years ago and left in part because of the toxic newsroom culture. There was a BIG divide between the new hires brought on to write about "city culture" and write opinion columns vs. folks who had established beats (investigations, local politics, business, etc.)...lots of slow-burn office politics and passive-aggressive slack comments, things like that. My take was that the influence of the Lenfest Organization reframed the "purpose" of the paper and caused a shift away from even keeled and broadly appealing news coverage towards more editorialized and narrative-based articles. For a while I subscribed because I thought the % of good articles made it worth it, but the coverage of the stadium, "A More Perfect Union", and things like that just put a bad taste in my mouth so I quit. I wish there was a competing outlet in the city.

Extremely well put! Thank you! Nice to have the “inside scoop”. I recently read a few articles about their demise. Sounds like it was really a mess for awhile and there was a slow purge of the old, hard news, even keeled element of the paper. It really used to be a formidable publication; now it seems more like a paper tiger sadly.

It’s funny, the other day I was thinking the same thing that there should be a competing outlet in the city. I think they’d do well.
