YEG - Edmonton Int Airport

So I just cast my vote.... locally that is. Going to YYZ next week. Tell me this, is there enough demand for a YKF flight from Edmonton, or does the fact that WJ did a once-a-day from Calgary fulfill the provinces needs for connection to KW?

oh and i forgot to mention that saturday at 2pm i had to pick my pops up from YEG and from downtown (99ave/105st) to YEG going across high level- calgary trail....door to door it was 28mins......i budgeted 45.

^Considering YEG is now only 10 minutes from the southside of the city it really cant be called leduc international anymore...Watch for the Xjet announcement in a few days, Supposed to be announced in a week or so from what was heared from airport talk around the airport.

So that is still a go? I was reading airliners.net today and couldn't tell if it was.

I am not sure about those small planes. If anything hopefully it causes some competition.

Icelandair to Expand Canadian Service with Open Skies Agreement

Just came into town from heathrow. Second time I used that flight. First time there and back the plane was the shits. This time going there it was the same shitty plane but coming back, WOW - different plane. If its not a new plane, the interior was certainly new. On demand seatback TV's and first class seats that fold into layout beds. AC's service was exceptional too. Im guessing a plane or two was freed up when AC aquired their 777's.
One thing that pissed me off going through customs - there was only 3 immigration/customs officers. After 9 hours on a plane - it was another 50 minutes waiting in line. Everyone around me was pissed - heard some people make comments like "its not this bad in Calgary"

I was in Moscow, which apparently is the most expensive city in the world to live - but anyway - I used both of Moscow's major airports Sheremetyevo and Domodedovo - both of which are undergoing major expansion. I read about Sheremetyevo's and they are spending 310 million dollars. This will increase their terminal 2 pax capacity from 8 million to 18 million. Pretty major expansion. Yet, our 200 million dollar expansion gets us 1000 more cars in the parkade and little dink for a terminal expansion which will take us from 5.5 million capacity to 7.5 million. Milney is quoted as saying we will see double digit increases for the next 5 years. So if we have 18% this year and 10% for the next 5 years - by 2012, YEG's passenger numbers would be somewhere around 9.5 million. I dont get it. I know im not comparing apples to apples, but why is it so expensive, and why are we not planning for the anticipated growth?

Labour and materials are very expensive right now. Most projects are being bid to include numerous overtime hours do to labour shortages and materials continue to escalate in cost at a staggering rate.
200 million today is probably worth about 500 million 5 years ago.

There are many reasons, primarily cost of labour. Labour is cheaper in Russia than it is in North America, particularly Alberta.

Regarding your new 767, that is a the reburbished aircraft...they should all be that way by next year.

i really hope they add 2-3 lanes for entering departures and another leaving...1 lane is quite tight sometimes and dangerous when busy/weather.
