Let's fill up that courtyard with Skytrain passengers .

Quite a few of the malls I saw in Australia had made recent additions/renovations with that concept, all restaurants clustered together in an outside space from the mall. A good way to bring more people after hours of the mall into the late evening.

^With all the development happening in Burquitlam, I wouldn't be surprised if it became the busiest station on the Evergreen Extension (it is currently 2nd, slightly behind Coquitlam Centre).

I think that you may be right in the short-term. Coquitlam Centre -> Lincoln Station has a lot of proposal in the works. So I think that the Coquitlam stations will overtake Burquitlam station, in terms of business, when those proposals start coming online.

It is already unrecognizable for those who haven't been there for a couple of years.

I think when the mall (Burquitlam Plaza) goes, that will really be it for the old Burquitlam - I guess there won't be too many to mourn it.

As for the new Elmwood building, hopefully the tree-like supports for the podium don't come out too tacky. I'm not sure how much room there is for a plaza to the East (under the guideway?) but at least it will be civil, so no big arguments or rude words allowed there, I guess.

The SOCO project is already underway as there is a lot of excavating happening in the area.

Also crane is now up for the lone Maillardville tower to the east from here.

they have reconfigured North Road in front of SOCO, the north bound lane currently is
single lane as a new lane is still closed off and they have added a left turn into the businesses across from SOCO, there is also now a new road to the north of the site, which sits between SOCO and the back of HMart, the old road will be closed off at some point.

I'm somewhat disappointed from the way that Burquitlam is turning out. I guess it's inevitable with the redevelopment at Lougheed, but I feel like a TOD is supposed to be something more than a bedroom community attached to a Skytrain station. Some of the proposed buildings in the area that haven't started construction yet seem to have substantial retail podiums, but there's certainly no draw to the area currently.

That's a somewhat odd location for such a massive development. Not really very transit friendly location despite SkyTrain running basically under it.

Glad to see that area finally getting some attention. Those buildings were past their prime 10-20 years ago.. it's certainly not an easy area to access by transit with busses going through the area every 15-30 mins (offpeak) or so. Maybe the additional density will allow for bus service to be improved.

The retail building is a definite plus. There's nothing up there currently as far as I know.

Buses every 30 mins is still pretty much the standard for most of the region outside of Vancouver.

What part of the mall will The Courtyard be built? I can't find any mention in the mall website of what location of that project will be built (unless I've missed something).
