Do they have a location yet? Or could it be that they're be part of an ownership group for one of the 3 CBC mentioned (Victoria's Pub; Shannon's Pub; or Fat Badger)?

Or could it be in the old Loggie's spot? I beleive someone mentioned on this blog there was a group looking to open a pub in that spot pending negotiations with the building owner.

Also, anyone heard updates on that new spot that was to open on Albert Street in that strip that houses Regina chamber of commerce, Cathedral Arts School, the Indian and Japenese restauraunts (the Albert block just south of 13th)? It was the most southerly building on that strip, east side of Albert. At one point there was some renos going on but it seems to have stalled.

Another pub in that area will be nice: more options for those hitting O'Hans, Beer Bros, Victoria's Tavern, Fat Badger - less chance of finding 1 of 2 pubs in the area to be full... a real possibility right now.

Add in Freehouse, Shannon's, Leo's, The Lobby, Bushwakkers, and there are plenty of options within a few minutes of downtown.
This is such great news that Regina starting to see more pub in the city center, thats one of the few things I liked about saskatoon that regina was lacking . I do install for a living and because of that I get to meet lots of new comers and I had one guy last week just moved here from the sourthern us and he mention he has notice the lack of options downtown a lot of new people say that, so this is great news.

Hotel Saskatchewan

Here's a recent article on the thriving hotel real estate sector in Canada. Published in The Globe and Mail's Report on Business, the article features Hotel Saskatchewan front and centre.

Interest hot for Canadian hotel properties
JOEL SCHLESINGER
Special to The Globe and Mail

Hotel Saskatchewan is back in Canadian hands after Winnipeg-based Temple Hotels purchased the Regina landmark last month
for for $32.8-million (U.S.) from the U.S.-based chain Radisson Hotels Corp.

"Regina’s Hotel Saskatchewan may not have the chateau-style architecture of its sister hotels built across Canada by Canadian Pacific Railway in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, such as the Banff Springs Hotel and the Château Frontenac in Quebec City. Yet the elegant, 10-storey iconic landmark on Victoria Avenue, completed in 1927, has remained like so many of Canada’s old CPR hotels – a premier destination...Its storied reputation played a central part in a Winnipeg-based real estate investment firm’s decision to purchase the 224-guestroom hotel last month for $32.8-million from the U.S.-based chain Radisson Hotels Corp. Yet Temple isn’t alone in its interest in Canadian hotels as a potentially profitable investment. Last year was the best year in half a decade for Canada’s hotel real estate sector, a recent report by Colliers International Hotels found...

...Temple will invest about $6-million over three years to upgrade guestrooms, the dining room, lounge, meeting space and lobby."

Loggies building also has that creative thing upstairs. Maybe there are synergies?

Housing is relatively affordable in in Saskatchewan according to RBC. In Vancouver it takes 82% of median family income to service monthly home costs. In Sask it is less than half that. We have higher incomes and way lower prices.

Saskatchewan – Weather not poor affordability to blame for winter slowdown
Owning a home in Saskatchewan became slightly more affordable for the
most part in the first quarter. RBC’s measures fell in two of three categories,
with the one segment showing a rise (two-storey homes) only reversing a
decline that took place the previous quarter. The drops in the measures
amounted to 0.6 percentage points for bungalows (to 36.4%) and 0.1 percentage
points for condo apartments (to 25.4%) while the rise for two-storey
homes was 0.5 percentage points (to 40.7%). The latest data maintain the
housing affordability trends prevailing in the province since 2009, which
have been essentially flat near historical norms, and thereby continue to suggest
that affordability plays a largely neutral role in home-buying decisions
in the province. First-quarter home resales declined for the second consecutive
quarter (by 5.5%); however, poor weather this winter may be
mostly to blame. A sharp snapback in April (resales jumped 7.0% from
March) is consistent with the view that the recent slowdown will prove to be
temporary.

Relatively affordable compared to Vancouver, yes. However, the basic recommendation is that the combined monthly costs of mortgage payments, property taxes, and insurance should not exceed 30% of your monthly take-home pay. In that regard, even bungalows in Regina are not what would be termed as 'affordable'. Then again, most places in Canada are closer to the 40% level than 30%. Should we blame lenders for allowing people to borrow so much, or homebuyers for borrowing more than might be deemed wise?

No, definitely a separate project. Last I heard, they were working on securing a spot in that beautiful, white stone building across from The Bay and SGI. (The building with a Debra Dee wedding dress shop).

^ I think Debra Dee's has been gone from that building for a little while now. The windows have looked empty the last few times I've walked by at least...

The left in August abruptly; trust me, it was 2 wks before our wedding and my wife's bridesmaids' dresses still weren't in, then to top it off they picked up and moved to a dive of a place by Value Village literally over night.

Long story short: thank you Le Chateau for the awesome bridesmaids dresses!

So I guess if someone asks me what it's like in Milestone, I can tell them "It's full of shit"? 'Treated' shit, of course.

This is a win-win for the City of Regina and for Western Potash. Forward thinking on the part of the company as the city has an excess of a product and they're in need of that product.

Actually it the proposed mine site is not all that close to Milestone. It is much closer to Kronau, but that does not have the same ring to it

Wow - that would be a beautiful space for an upscale pub. I've always liked the look of that building.

(Colliers calls it Canada Place...likely a rename after federal tenants - Heritage & CRTC, I believe - had the ground level for severl years)

100 years old this year. Originally the Canada Life Building. It still has the Canada Life Swans in the Terra Cotta façade.

Yeah, that's the building! I believe it is the vacant unit on the other side of the main doors from Debra Dee (facing The bay) Last I heard, they were finalizing the architectural drawings / interior design plans.

I believe this building is currently known as Canada Place. AON Reed Stenhouse is now located on the 8th floor of the Bank of Montreal Building, one block down.

If there is a pub coming to this area I hope that it is in the space formerly occupied by Debra Dee, with its high, ornamental ceiling. There is a business (Maxwell Altima Realty) on the other side of the main entrance.

There is also the vacant space next door, above J & A Restaurant, but I would doubt it would go there.

It is going in the debra dee's space. There is even talk of a patio on cornwall. The proponents are the folks from flip.

This makes six proposals for a three block area...
