PG did successfully build one mass timber office building if I remember correctly.

And a coupe have now been built in Vancouver.

oh yeah the wood innovation centre midrise i was more talking about the 12 storey they were planning

I moved to Kelowna a little over a year ago, and one of my favourite things about this city is seeing the mountains tower over our tallest buildings. You don't get that on the east coast. Great pictures, thanks for sharing!

I remember when the only highrises on the skyline was the Grand, Kelowna has come so far! Would love to see the view from one of the highrises, would be a lot to see!

Kelowna will get a second crossing eventually. And it will probably take 20-30 years, but I bet Landmark and Downtown will eventually be connected, at least along Harvey

The zoomed out one is my favorite. Great angle!

Giallo you should try and get one from the south looking north east from the middle of the lake. Never seen a shot from there but wonder if it would make the skyline look like more of a dense cluster. Maybe with the bridge and lake in front.

Im torn. As a taxpayer of the City of Kelowna, I don't want to pay for this. Especially because council probably wont even listen to citizen's concerns for the property anyways, they'll just do what they damn well please. But at the same time, if it means something will finally get done with that property then go for it! Such a shame the old Willow Inn could have remained standing all this time if it wasn't for Westcorp's epic fail. Without question I'd rather have the Willow Inn over whatever will end up being built there, but anything is better than a parking lot.

Can't wait for the new concepts. I think it'll be hard to top what Westcorp envisioned.

Agreed! To have Highway 97 pass through the city on Harvey Ave is a joke. Last time in Kelowna, it took an hour driving from the end of the bridge on the Kelowna side to the YLW turnoff. Compare this to Kamloops which has a nice 4 and 6-lane freeway bypassing the central part of the city; albeit the freeway comes to an abrupt end through the Valleyview area of Kamloops.

I'm sure they did it on purpose, having the highway right there is good for business and the city. By the time traffic got to where it is now, it was too late to turn Harvey into a freeway.

Highway 1/97 in Kamloops used to be on city streets (Columbia Ave IIRC); similar to Kelowna; before it was re-constructed as a freeway on the bench above the city.

To use the Harvey Ave corridor, really only two options; a tunnel or a trench like the Decarie in Montreal. Realistically, a Highway 97 freeway in Kelowna would have to bypass around the city with a new lake crossing.

Kamloops has the benefit of not having to cross a very deep lake, the highway can stay on the south side of the river with crossings to the north side being easy. Kelowna will have to build a bypass at some point, but I'm not sure I'll live to see it.

I do like the idea of trenching part of Harvey to make it free flow, not sure if they could make it work through downtown though...
