When I lived in Edmonton Save On Foods was my favourite grocery store and I'm glad they're in Regina now.

it is hard to believe all the towers that went up and are going up in the city , plus the new stadium , the two billion dollar bypass , capital pointe , and a possible new rink downtown by Brandt , one would of thought this should of happened in the other city Regina is on a roll

Saskatoon will eventually be a recipient of new highrises.

As for Regina, I sure hope that rumours of a new rink are true; the old CP yards would be the most ideal location. I hope the build it BIG!!! Besides that, the Brandt Centre's basement water infrastructure is in horrible shape.

I assure you there is little more than vague conceptualizing of a new arena. There is no money.

A rink and parkade are planned for the UofR just east of the Kinesiology complex across the street.

That was planned back when I was at the U of R. It went to a student vote whether we would agree to an extra couple dollars every year in a few to help fund it. IIRC it lost, but barely. Since then there hasn't really been any further talk on the subject, at least not that I have heard.

There were also plans for a football/soccer stadium at U of R but that has also on the backburner.

The U is looking for private partners to help fund all of these projects.

From the document, Strategy 29, this is the U of R's immediate priorities:

• Expansion south from the Education Building;
• The new arena, likely coupled with a parking structure east of CKHS;
• Additional housing in the northeast quadrant;
• Expansions east and west of Luther College and west of Campion College;
• Infill between the Language Institute and Ad/Hum;
• Expansion north of Ad/Hum

The U of course has no internal sources of funding for large capital projects. There could be some Federal money but the main source is the Province, so there will be nothing for at least several years.

Proposed care home towers approved

Plans for a care home in Regina’s northeast neighbourhood will be moving forward despite continued concerns from a few community members. Regina City Council voted in favour of the proposed development at its public meeting.

Eden Care Communities is proposing to build two towers — nine- and ten-storeys tall — at 5th Avenue North and Broad Street, the current site of Regina Lutheran Home. The proposed facility will feature residences, retail, clinics, a daycare and care home.

Alan Stephen, Eden Care CEO, said the height of the towers is necessary because it will allow the home to offer a quality of care not seen before in Regina.


Regina’s downtown business group gets bigger

The Regina Downtown Business Improvement District (RDBID) is expanding its boundaries.

After two delegations and lengthy discussion, council voted in favour of the expansion, which will add 125 properties to RDBID’s purview by extending boundaries south along Broad Street from Victoria Avenue. The expansion will add about $90,000 to RDBID’s budget through its property tax-collected levy.

RDBID executive director Judith Veresuk said the expansion will be mutually beneficial for both her organization and the businesses that would become members. She believes the change will make the organization’s boundaries better fit with residents’ perceptions of what Regina’s downtown is, while new member businesses will benefit from RDBID’s advocacy and profile.

I haven't been following this whatsoever and almost had a panic attack looking at the renderings, thinking this was in the Warehouse District and had some demolition in the cards. I need some sleep.

They need to rip up Scarth Street Mall (especially those hideous planters) and continue on what they did with the plaza stone wise. Every time I see Scarth Street Mall it looks worse and worse.
