Very curious about the design and location. The original one was proposed to be a wing like shape on the NE as your go up the arrivals ramp and tie into the terminal there.

It better look good.

Or how about Starwood's hip/airport brand, ALOFT hotels? They are primarily in the States, but have one in Montreal.

Marriott Courtyard will be fine, It's a typical business hotel... I stayed at them regularly while travelling on business & always found them totally acceptable.

I would be surprised if it really stands out at all. Pretty boring hotel - I'd imagine something akin to Ottawa Airport's Hilton Garden Inn http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s...6ovw9u_eNKKLqlEww&cbp=11,210.71,,0,-6.87

I am surprised someone is building a hotel whose brand specifically doesn't feature conference space (not that the space is precluded)

Marriott Courtyard going up at YEG - yes, I've noticed that - I have an RSS feed to the Journal on my PC screen.

I'm still taking an "I'll believe it when I see it" approach to this announcement in the Journal. It's been so long since they initially announce that a hotel would go up, but...nothing's materialized. Jeez. Maybe this time, maybe, but I'm not holding my breath right now.

Anyone here 'in the know'? What are all the earthworks taking place down by the Fedex ramp for? I've heard that Fedex wanted more space but 'a little' is not how I would describe the amount of dirt/space being plowed...

And on another note, what is that building going up just north of Rwy 30? I thought that area was still being farmed but now you see a building and a huge stockpile of dirt.

Not exactly in the know, but Fed Ex delivers here daily and our delivery guy said they are getting a new facility that they've been asking for since 1996 (or there-abouts). Thats all I got.

Not 100% sure about the structure that you can see from QEII (it's too far from the runway to be 'airside') but I heard that they're starting to build apron space for Alberta Gov't's eventual new hangar and another for Medevacs over by 12/30. I guess with that huge mound of dirt, a lot of this work won't be visible for some time. It feels like the wheels are finally in motion with all the digging/building going on. Let's see this airport prosper, already...

last night we parked on whyte/107st walked down to fringe area and back...

I was asked 5 times by 5 diff people to sign the petition.

got very annoying

with that said, at least they were polite

Should of asked them if you get the $0.75 or do they keep it.

Seems a bit disappointing.

I did expect to see a decrease in transborder traffic as capacity has been reduced this summer. Expect to see further declines when the winter scheds kick in.

I will also assume the small increase in International is due to the weekly TS FRA flight, and the extra weekly WS flight to CUN, but offset by MX's departure from YEG.

This whole "Stop the Calgary Habit" doesn't really seem to be working... almost on the verge of being embarrassing.
