I would argue that the street level crossing is more accessible and easier for pedestrians. The distance one needs to walk to cross College with the current overpass is ~150 m, with the at-grade crossing it'll be cut down to 40 m (see slide 8 of the open house display boards). I concede that ped overpasses are useful along highways/freeways like Circle Dr or north Idylwyld Dr where vehicles are travelling at 90+ km/h, however, in this location this stretch of College deserves to be more ped-friendly with all of the students living in CQ crossing over to campus.

$170M private partner agreement to help fund Saskatoon’s arena under review

By Mackenzie Mazankowski
Global News
April 8, 2025

The City of Saskatoon is “taking a breath” to re-evaluate its tentative agreement with the American company OVG360, a key funder for the city’s upcoming arena.

The city’s taking “a wait and see approach here with regards to where things go with the trade war, tariffs and whether that will have an impact on the agreement,” said Dan Willems, director of Technical Services for the City of Saskatoon.

I know this is not a political forum, so my apologies right from the start. I am in now way an activist or member of any political party. However, I feel compelled to share an opinion.

From all accounts, a very strange thing is happening in the Saskatoon/University riding where the Liberal candidate is actually close to the Conservative candidate. This is unchartered waters for this riding (in which I live). Full disclosure....I normally vote NDP, but I think for this election period, there are some good reasons to vote strategic and vote Liberal.

1. NDP polling has dropped in this riding for this election cycle
2. Liberals appear poised to challenge to form Federal government
3. Liberal candidate appears to have a chance in this riding if the votes ARE NOT split with NDP
4. If Liberals do form Fed Government, a Liberal candidate from Saskatoon likely has a very good chance of being in cabinet for Western representation.

Again....my apologies for posting a political comment on this thread, but I see that there is a unique opportunity this election.

If you know anyone that lives in this riding...you may want to engage in a conversation with them.

The Regina thread is on fire-- makes it seem like not much is happening here in comparison.

BUT-- there's a ton happening in our once-sleepy town. Whenever I drive out to the East side, I'm shocked with the growth in Evergreen, Aspen Ridge, Brighton, Rosewood. Lots of density in those new areas as well, which is a cool change.

Nearer to me in City Park, Baydo's downtown towers are progressing slooooowly, but will add more than 400 people to that block when finished. The new central library is flying up. Great Western's brewery expansion seems to be in an internal fit out stage. Downtown seems hopping with this good weather (much to the opposition of almost every online opinion that makes it sound like Dawn of the Dead). Lots of people of all walks out, shopping, eating at our awesome food/drink establishments.

Broadway's added some great density over the past five years, and empty storefronts are scooped up quickly. Movement on the site of the new office building on the community garden on 12th. Something hopefully coming soon from Westcliff on the old Extra Foods patch.

Lots of hope for Saskatoon over the next ten years. Just because we aren't as photo-happy as our Regina friends doesn't mean that things are quiet here. Lots of growth to see around the city, which is nice.

Fingers crossed the tariff situation doesn't put a damper on the infill projects that are in the pipeline (affordable city-owned lots development, College Dr. affordable project, Duchuck's next project of grocery/residential on the former Star Phoenix site, etc...).

In comparison to Regina, Saskatoon construction is much busier. We're just too busy to spend hours in online forums.

The contentious condos being built on the corner of Main and Cumberland have certainly taken shape. I think it was Blackrock that owned the property at one time, although I'm not sure if they are the builders.

It will be interesting to see how sales go for that project. It looks like a nice building that may be priced in the mid to high range. I am curious about sales, as it is on a very busy corner and adjacent to some lower rental type properties along Main Street. Having said that, it is in great proximity to Rapid Transit and amenities of 8th Street.

I guess we will see!

And when folks post pics, hardly anyone responds. It's frustrating, but that's Toon town.

Fair comment. I've posted photos in the past, but it's probably been a couple years. Two main reasons - 1) I'm not going to post photos of any projects that I'm working on, for a multitude of reasons & 2) - simply don't think of it, which is a poor excuse. I'll try to do better.

Thanks for the pics!!

Nice to see some movement on the Urgent Care Centre (albeit slow...).

I recall an article (CKOM?) that said the Manchester's site-- a new Shoppers Drug Mart-- is currently in the approvals process at City Hall, and that they are just going to construct the foundation for now? Gives me hope that we might see a more urban building with some housing on top. That site is zoned Corridor Main Street now, I'm pretty sure, so it would be great to see something that doesn't look like it belongs in Rosewood.

The new Central Library concrete core (back of house) flew up this winter. I can't tell if it's topped-out, or if there is one more floor to go? The main floor looks a little squat in comparison to the three above, so maybe the first floor is split with a mezzanine in the concrete portion? Either way, nice to see that coming along. Hopefully injects some life into that stretch of 2nd Ave with some spinoff projects over the next few years.
