Unless I'm reading the schedule wrong, if you need to get to YEG in the afternoon, say on the 4:05 bus...you have to go all the way through Leduc first, getting to YEG at 5:05? Not exactly the best way to make people use the service, IMO.

Or if you land in the AM and want to catch a ride back to Edmonton, it will be an hour before you get to Century Park as it has to ride all around Leduc first.

Essentially this is a Leduc-Edmonton commuter bus with a stop at the airport. If it is paid for by the City of Leduc (or is it the county) then this is what we get for now. Service that caters to them, and has a token stop at the airport.

It is a Leduc pilot program basically for workers and commuters and not so much YEG travelers.

The City of Edmonton one was defeated, but i have a feeling it will come back this winter with a spring trail.

This was the response I received from the mayor:

Thank you for your email expressing your views in regards to Public Transit Service to the Edmonton International Airport.

I recognize and support the desire to explore a transit system that would facilitate access to the airport, and the potential opportunities that may come from this service for our citizens.

The proposal was brought to council to initiate the project; however; Council decided against it in a 7-6 vote. Although the idea behind the proposal was a good one, the timing was not right.

We will have to continue to look at viable options and possible mechanisms that could shape this project in the future. More work is needed find innovative and creative solutions that would meet the needs of our citizens.

I appreciate your interest, and thank you for sharing your thoughts on this subject.

Stephen Mandel
Mayor

Yes unfortunately it is geared more to YEG workers and Leduc commuters. I think these people need to support the service and the few that might use it on a flight leaving in the morning or arriving in the afternoon.

The only thing i can see leaving Edmonton with egg on its face is if some unknown traveller sees the ETS bus and decides its cheaper to get to Edmonton but doesn't realize the bus goes through Leduc first. You'll probably hear a news story about it. Then again, maybe that'll give some more media time to the whole issue which could be a good thing. I guess we'll see.

The schedule shows arrival at YEG before Leduc. Or am I reading it wrong?

Is this for real? Leduc can figure out this bus, but Edmonton CAN'T?

I'm sorry, but that's just

Shame on you, E-town.

^It shows arrival to YEG ahead of Leduc in the morning so if you have a morning flight it works. But if you depart at 6:00pm, you'll have to go through Leduc first before getting to YEG.

As for Edmonton not figuring it out, it's 7 councillors that didn't figure it out. I would not be surprised if ECCA supporters Hayter and Caterina were among the seven.

The naysayers on council balked at the price, but some others were like "but the taxi drivers, won't someone please think about the taxi drivers"

The 590 stops half a block from my brother-in-law's house, great! Hopefully this bus is still around next summer, or better yet with an expanded schedule. Will make getting to an Eskimos game or to Heritage Days a lot better.

BTW, did someone forget to make a direct connection from Gateway NB to 111 St?

The Orlando flights leave Edmonton at 12:45 a.m., arriving at 7:41 a.m. Return flights leave at 8:35 a.m., arriving at 12:27 p.m.

Pretty shi**y time slot??????????????

Horrible but they should be able to fill it.

Probably fleet utilization and time slots at both YEG and MCO in play for the timing.
