I'd be satisfied if they completely through out this ridiculous design and started over from scratch.

Something simple with maybe a slight curve or taper would be awesome like say, the Waldorf Astoria project . It's similar height too. I would honestly almost prefer something boxy to this though, I like the design to a certain extent but not so much for Chicago.

I don't think it would look good here. Parallel to Michigan, with added retail, on the wabash block, would look cool.

The site workers people thought they saw for this project were most likely for GEMS Phase 2, which broke ground this week.

I know the meeting is scheduled for Monday the 13th but was there any sort of public meeting on this last night or was the news just making shit up again?

The massing of this isn't any "weirder" than Sears or 2Pru. Just because the sides aren't vertical doesn't make this some Chinese blob.

More importantly, the details of this tower will be designed with a care and sensitivity that very few of those Chinese towers have.

if the detailing turns out anything like the image below (ie. not VE'd to hell and back), i will have no qualms with this tower adding its own dialogue to the chicago skyline discussion.

as for the massing, i think the three big, awkward, blocky setbacks are very chicago in a sears tower kind of way. it's certainly not pretty; it's just strong, and a bit clumsy, just like sears.

I mean this is more Chicago like, than the Trump Tower. IMO. I really don't get why you have a problem with it. This one is the best supertall proposal Chicago has had besides the Waldorf.

Also the the Trump is 10x tackier than this.

How is trump tacker it has a far more classic, elegant design than this awkward mess.

I don't know it just looks a like the Trump was designed for New York. Also that garbage sign.

Also hat's the old design the new one looks a lot more clean.

Hardly. I've always thought of the Trump Chicago as a baby "Sears". The spire could have been better, but it was something Chicago's mayor wanted. Link

The Wanda tower may be a little awkward, but I think it fits Chicago, and would go well with the likes of the Hancock and Sears. That being said, I do think that the Chicago Spire, had it been built, would have stood out as something different, but I think more people than not would have appreciated it.

So we'll see how this one evolves.

The trump tower, before the sign, was a blessing on this city. Such an amazing building that any city in the world would have been proud to contain.
