A mega downgrade would be disappointing for this project, as the first renderings were quite nice. I liked them at least. But you know, people didn't want the Spire built. Get ready for the string of el-cheapo mega proposals in Chicago.

I'd be satisfied if they completely through out this ridiculous design and started over from scratch.

Something simple with maybe a slight curve or taper would be awesome like say, the Waldorf Astoria project . It's similar height too. I would honestly almost prefer something boxy to this though, I like the design to a certain extent but not so much for Chicago.

I don't think it would look good here. Parallel to Michigan, with added retail, on the wabash block, would look cool.

Please stay on topic folks. This thread is about the Wanda Vista project. It isn't about New York City or any kind of supertall penis measuring contest.

The site workers people thought they saw for this project were most likely for GEMS Phase 2, which broke ground this week.

1 photo has Museum park as the center of it, and there a couple with the Trump. So you want another one of them?

The massing of this isn't any "weirder" than Sears or 2Pru. Just because the sides aren't vertical doesn't make this some Chinese blob.

More importantly, the details of this tower will be designed with a care and sensitivity that very few of those Chinese towers have.

No! I just like that photo. The Hancock, Two Prudential, Aon, and CrainsComm look great together. I ignore Museum Park.
What's wrong with the Trump? It looks retro-futurist, American, sleek --compare it to Wanda!
The collage points out a vibe that Wanda doesn't fit with.

Some angles of the Sears aren't so nice, but the elevations looking south and west very much capture what I'm describing.

if the detailing turns out anything like the image below (ie. not VE'd to hell and back), i will have no qualms with this tower adding its own dialogue to the chicago skyline discussion.

as for the massing, i think the three big, awkward, blocky setbacks are very chicago in a sears tower kind of way. it's certainly not pretty; it's just strong, and a bit clumsy, just like sears.

I mean this is more Chicago like, than the Trump Tower. IMO. I really don't get why you have a problem with it. This one is the best supertall proposal Chicago has had besides the Waldorf.

Also the the Trump is 10x tackier than this.

I like that angle too, but it's not representative of the building's presence.
I think the impact will be marring. The in and out is just trying to get attention.

We have to be more discriminant. A building of this scale has to address the theme of the city. It doesn't have to conform to it, but it has to complement it.
