Does anybody know what is going on with the Gulf Quest Museum it suppose to break ground and fondation suppose to be laid this month ?

The rendering for the new luxury condos on Florida street looks nice ! I hope something will be done with the little strip mall next door though.I`m thinking luxury apartments.
I drove by the gulf quest museum site the other day; they are currently "preloading" the site to prep for the foundation. basically, a method to prevent settlement over the lifetime of the structure is to load the site with heavy structural soils. This technique is used by geotechnical engineers to compact organics and soft soils located below the ground surface. So, they have already started on the foundation work. Exactly how long they will be doing this I do not know..... Also, I should say that this is only what I believe they are doing right now.....

Glad to know that there is some sort of progress going on. The street view exiting off of I-10 into water street is dramatic with the Convention Center, Cruise terminal,Exploreum,River View, and RSA Tower.

Having the Gulf Quest along with the proposed pedestrian bridge that was shown in the rendering will be another great addition to Water street. That area of Water street and Royal both give a cosmopolitan feel. I think one of the best views of the skyline is the I-10 exit ramp approaching Water street.

I hope they will keep the plan for bay excursions that were offered with Gulf Quest. That would be cool because we rarely use the bay for recreational use.

The rendering of that building is nice and it will be gated from what I’ve read. I think that building is only the beginning of upscale developments in that area.

Downtown is in great need of more apartments. We have plenty of lofts and condos. I think St.Louis Street which is another major downtown artery that is being over looked because it is in the center would be great for a brownstone type of apartment development. Developing St.Louis street into what it use to be would be a major change for that area.

Former Amsouth building is now named RSA-Banktrust.

They have decided to scale down a little on the carnival color scheme which is good.Becasue I was afraid that they may over due the Carnival color scheme.

I really like this picture for some reason even though it is missing the Battle House and the side of the River View with the crown. It looks gothic for some reason which is cool to me anybody else agree ?

I will like to see more pedestrian bridges such as the one in the rendering all along water street maybe three or four.It would also be a good idea to put a couple on Broad as well they may noy have to be as nautical but it is needed on Broad.

The Federal money was granted with one of the conditions being that a ferry be located at the Gulf Quest site. I hope they can do dinner cruises as those were great fun when there was a boat based at the convention center.

MOBILE, Ala. --The Marines will storm Mobile in 2012 when the National Convention of the Marine Corps League meets in the city.

The weeklong convention scheduled Aug. 12-18, 2012, is expected to draw between 4,000 and 5,000 Marine Corps League and Auxiliary members and guests, according to the Mobile Bay Convention & Visitors Bureau. The Mobile-based P.L. Wilson Detachment #447 of the Marine Corps League is hosting the convention.

Leon Maisel, President and CEO of the MBCVB, said it could mean between $15 million and $18 million for the Mobile economy. With a convention this size, said Maisel, its going to raise the roof with some 20,000 area hotel rooms being used.
Big news for the convention business in Mobile...

Man that is great news !!

Did anyone see the rendering of the new RSA Banktrust Tower(Amsouth Tower). In yesterday’s Press register !!?? The building looks nice ! And I`m happy about Bronner’s vision in the building he has done a great job in improving the building.

In the front page article he mentioned that the building will have some sort of extravagant exterior lighting or torches. The article also mentioned that "RSA has a strong commitment with the downtown area" so in other words to me Bronner was simply saying that there is "more to come" lol.

From what I have seen in the front page rendering the windows seem to be a bit larger with a blue tint to them which will give the impression that it is a glass structure from a distance. The facade seem to be have been brighten and there was some changes to the parking garage as well which had shops and cafes at the bottom also as well s new land scaping.

And speaking of 4,000 to 5,000 visiting the city for a convention. The Press register also mentioned that Bonner has sent two RSA representatives to Korea to lure a convention in Mobile that will bring 4,000 also.

Bronner is the man and I can only imagine if he was to run for governor or just the mayor of Mobile period.

Good to hear from you Blessed and yeah that would be great to have that again. having bay excursions and just dinner on the water sounds good to me.

This may sound crazy but it would be cool if one of the ferries from Gulfquest could be used for cruisng. I`m thinking since there are several rivers that end at the bay.The ferry could cruise through the the rivers to inland areas of Alabama, just a thought.

Here's the rendering for those that do not subscribe:

Also, there's flashes of the ground-level enhancements in this video from WKRG:

I forgot about the Korea trip. I guess this USMC Convention is not in conjunction with the trips noted in the Press-Register?

Does anyone know what is being done to attract more retail tenants to downtown or the area in general? I was in Birmingham a few weekends ago and noticed that they have unlimited retail/restaurant options. I know that the metro area is larger in terms of population but it seems that the Mobile market is full of untapped potential. BellAir mall's parking lot is full most days. Any word on the entrance of a Costco, Macy's, etc. to the Mobile market anytime soon. I think that a lifestyle center in downtown (like the Plaza in Kansas City) would be a major attraction for tourists and locals alike It would breathe life into the city center and become a catalyst for further development. I moved here in 2007. There was certainly more focus on development then. Everything has slowed down to a snail's pace, mainly because of the economy. In addition, any news on more job recruitment efforts since TK is up and running? Have city leaders started implementing the "new plan" yet? I'm hoping to see more progress soon.

new BankTrust Building

We owe BankTrust a big "thank you" for 1) moving into the AmSouth Building and 2) talking Bronner out of making this building shout "Mardi Gras." Keep the interior designer for the Battle House lobby away from the new BankTrust building. I can't believe Bronner actually thought the GM name was appropriate....and to say it was just flipping the initials for Mardi Gras. Oh Geez! I appreciate the pension money but we are losing some big tax paying buildings to the "no pay" status of exempt. Still like Bronner's attachment to Mobile...now sell him the convention center and watch it blossom.
