That sounds chessey to me. I think it should be used as a barn. Perhaps lease out stalls for horses. It would be a great place for A Park City Equestrian Tours business.

Bumped Up

I was particularly interested to see one of my favorite structures get some tender loving care. I look forward to the day when it will be put in full re-use. I think this will be the game changing step toward that direction.

Better out in the middle of West Jordan than in a real city. Leave the density and urban development for the real players, while the suburbs waste their land.

New Hale Centre Theatre in Sandy faces 5-month construction delay

By Katie McKellar, Deseret News

http://www.deseretnews.com/article/86564...dy-faces-5-month-construction-delay.html

...Hale Centre Theatre's new home is well underway, with towering cranes, mounds of dirt and gravel, and the beginnings of a structural skeleton.

The 130,000-square-foot theater with 1,350 seats was originally estimated to open in January next year at 9886 Monroe St. But Utahns will have to wait about five months longer, until June, before they can walk through the mega-theater's doors.

That's because construction crews had a little trouble with the Sandy site's high water table, according to Mark Dietlein, the theater’s president and CEO...

Artist's rendering of the new Hale Centre Theatre under construction at 9900 Monroe in Sandy. The theater was originally slated to open in January 2017, but some construction delays have pushed the anticipated opening date to June, 2017. (Hale Centre Theatre)

Construction continues on the new Hale Centre Theatre in Sandy on Thursday, March 3, 2016. (Ravell Call, Deseret News)

Isn't there supposed to be a 12-14 story office building to be built next to the theater? I heard that from an engineer. If there is, were renderings posted on it?

I don't remember hearing anything about an adjacent office building. Although if Sandy does want build a downtown a 10-12 story building would be a good start, as long as it doesn't have massive grassy setbacks and it's main entrance is facing a parking garage. Then it's just another suburban office building.

Here's a rough draft of some Granite High Potential.

What's left of the school, the class room buildings facing 500 E stays and is converted into apartments.
The existing pool stays (the building directly west of the bleachers)
The auditorium, (facing 3300 S) and the connected gym stay.

Add an outdoor pool to the pool building (Dark blue)
Add a mixed use retail/apartments 5-7 stories facing 3300 S, with garage parking (orange)
Move the tennis courts to existing open space west of the track and field
Light orange is new apartments that are connected to the school converted apartments, with some common area in the middle.
Purple are town houses.
Yellow are single family homes.
I removed two buildings, one between the class room building and the gym and one south of there.
I added streets from two current dead ends connecting to 500 E, 3300 S and N/S through the property.

Maybe this is accomplished through giving the developer the property or providing them TIF. The city or county retains ownership of the pool, auditorium, gym and fields, and the developer has several acres to redevelop. By either giving them the property or doing TIF, that gives the developer more funds to make the conversion of the school combined with the new additions pencil out.

I like it, especially since the main classroom building would stay.

Article back in September 2015 indicates a 12-story 153-foot building is going up first (by the tallest crane, currently).

AllOutOfBubbleGum; Out in West Jordan; they have a 239 achier development planned by Copper Hills High School. This is right by the Dannon Factory. This will be smaller then that Riverton development but the biggest West Jordan project since Jordan Landings. The main focus is getting an Auto Mall built on it, but that is tricky. West Jordan needs the State to change a law banning dealerships of "Like" produces to be sold within 15 miles of another.

The more I find out about cushy laws for Auto Dealers the more I start to hate them [dealerships]

I just saw this post and realize that my wife works at Copper Hills Youth Center, which falls into that shaded area. She hasn't heard anything about development in the area, but if the area is to be developed what is to happen to the youth center?

Since it's not inside the purple line, I assume it stays.

Article on the Granite High property,

Yet another plan for old Granite High goes down

http://www.sltrib.com/news/3661075-155/yet-another-plan-for-old-granite?fullpage=1

Quote:
The would-be treasure that is the old Granite High has been waiting for a metamorphosis — and it may have time after Mayor Cherie Wood vetoed plans to plop homes and shops on the South Salt Lake site.

Garbett Homes and Wasatch Property outlined a proposal for 78 single-family houses on 13 acres to go with commercial and retail development on 10 acres along 3300 South, just east of 500 East. They also called for a 3-acre park.

The century-old school and outbuildings would be demolished.

The City Council voted 4-3 for the plan, but the mayor put on the brakes last week. The council may seek to resurrect a modified proposal.

As it stands now, Wood said the plan leaves too many unanswered questions and does not provide enough definition surrounding commercial development and open space.

Wood also noted that Granite School District eventually may lower its $10.6 million asking price.

Update on the Cairns. inContact is opening its new corporate headquarters in June. The only 12-story building I've heard of in the area is the first phase of the Prestige, but that will be residential.

I did hear from a source that it is an 11 story office building that is supposed to be located adjacent to the new Hales Theater and is supposed to share the parking structure. At this point I don't know if it means the 11 story building is approved or just a proposal.

Big news for Real Salt Lake, Monarchs and potential future women's soccer and rugby teams. Real is building a world-class training faculty, they say is better than any other offering in North America. It will also house the Real Monarchs Stadium, instead of West Valley. This will be in Herriman on 42 acres and will break ground in October.

I think at the very least they should look for a location adjacent to a Trax station! Building a stadium out in the burbs with no decent transit is going to require a huge surface parking lot and it will create some traffic issues for sure.

I've never even been to the one in Sandy. I've never actually beheld Herriman with my own eyes. Because the suburbs suck.
