Advantage of a downtown arena of course is encouraging people to eat out at restaurants and take on other nearby activities before and after games, thus reducing the influx of riders on the transit system and vehicular traffic.

Canada Life Centre in Winnipeg is squished between the two main downtown transit arteries, Portage Avenue and Graham Avenue. So excellent from a transit perspective with busy bus stops right outside each arena entrance. But that said, I'd imagine that overall transit ridership for Jets/Moose games is fairly low relative to other Canadian cities... it's just not that much of a hassle to drive to the game.
To my eyes it looks like there are far more buses going to football games at IG Field, because driving to and from there + parking are more of a pain.
