Didn't notice. Never heard of them.

This site would have been a good one for Rossetti's inverted bowl.

Advantage of a downtown arena of course is encouraging people to eat out at restaurants and take on other nearby activities before and after games, thus reducing the influx of riders on the transit system and vehicular traffic.
220m to two different stations and access to two rapid transit lines is more than enough. The current parking situation has people walking as far as 625m to get to the front door using the covered walkway and pedestrian paths. I have no concerns with the access to transit in the current plan but would love to see at least partially covered access to one or both the stations.

Smiley face was for the "didn't notice". But it's true I never heard of them...

An honest man, good to see, and yes they are a very big player in the stadium/arena business.

Canada Life Centre in Winnipeg is squished between the two main downtown transit arteries, Portage Avenue and Graham Avenue. So excellent from a transit perspective with busy bus stops right outside each arena entrance. But that said, I'd imagine that overall transit ridership for Jets/Moose games is fairly low relative to other Canadian cities... it's just not that much of a hassle to drive to the game.

To my eyes it looks like there are far more buses going to football games at IG Field, because driving to and from there + parking are more of a pain.

Looks like a convention centre. I like when arenas don't look like arenas. I can't decide if this qualifies.

Commonwealth is an impressive stadium. Any issues with the lack of roof structure? There's some debates in Ottawa regarding the lack of roof on the proposed new North Side Stands.

Back to the Sens arena, population comparisons between current location vs LeBreton location (called "Kettleman's Basilica", Kettleman's being a local bagel shop. For comedic/parody effect, not an actual proposed name).

If they sold fire bagels at the arena, it would be fantastic. So delicious. Kettleman's Basilica wouldn't the the dumbest name slapped on an arena, either (Crypto.com Arena takes the cake there), and I'm happy as long as it isn't another Rogers/Scotiabank thing.

Actually, the whole Senators proposal looks fantastic to be honest. Given that LeBreton Flats is still kind of a dead zone, it would be great to see it become something given its proximity to downtown Ottawa. I'd see a game there, certainly. Not being stuck in the boonies of Kanata pre- and post-game will just be icing on the cake.

The day the wrecking ball hits Canadian Tire Centre and the last of the suburban NHL arenas bites the dust in Canada, I'll smile.

That is really the only thing Commonwealth is missing, is some sort of roof cover. It's really just a few rows in the lower deck that are tucked under the upper deck overhang are covered... everything else is exposed. So when it's raining, just about everyone is getting wet.

Impressive shot that Cold shared... I heard Garth Brooks had two sellouts x 60,000+ fans in Edmonton this weekend. I'm amazed he still has that much drawing power!

They contemplated a partial and full roof structure multiple times, but the beauty of Commonwealth is how open it is and feels.

I cannot see them adding one anytime in the foreseeable future.

^ It's hard to imagine how one could be added in an architecturally complementary way. It is what it is, it has worked for over 40 years and there's no need to change it.

^ Yes, the cost/benefit ratio would have been horrendous. Spending immense amounts of money to have a stadium with the atmosphere of an aircraft hangar.

I think there were even concepts kicked around in the 70s and 80s for doming Winnipeg Stadium which would have been hilarious.

Juba wanted to put a dome over the stadium in the 1970s. I doubt it was a serious proposal that was ever drawn up or costed out, though...
