@Sunnybrae, you appear to be correct. I do see a smaller version of the turntable foundation, which is bout 60% exposed and the other appears bigger but only about 10% exposed.
Odd because CBC posted pictures of it from above (at least I think it was CBC)...

I believe that's the boarded up building just to the east of Dolma Foods, on the NW corner of Archibald/St George. It was under renovations for a while, but was abandoned. Somebody on the forum noted several months ago that they saw people with hard hats exiting the building recently.

The Cities and Developers must both love and hate us. We seem to have eyes EVERYWHERE and we're a chatty bunch.

Seems like we often manage to ferret out the full details of projects before they even put pen to paper.

It's a nice old brick building with some character. It would be great to see it redeveloped. As is it's a bit of an eyesore. It's good to see this type of project, if that's what's happening here.

The building, at least from the outside, seems to have good bones, and deserves to be restored, but simply seeing a couple of guys in hard hats exiting the site is pretty thin evidence that there is actually anything afoot. These guys may simply have been city inspectors or something. Time will tell.

Is this the old Co-op building???

Are you suggesting Lafford might have purchased this property???

I have done a little digging and can confirm that Lafford has indeed purchased the old Co-op site. This is potentially very exciting news!!!

Of course, nothing may happen for several years, but this prominent and substantial property has been purchased by a serious developer.

This has been a very busy day on SSP.

$1.8M is a steal for this big chunk of downtown property.

Thank goodness it's not going to be another surface parking lot like Blue Cross wanted to make it. I think the city was right to reject that plan.

On another note, not sure if this was ever posted here, but looks like 115/117 Cameron and a few houses behind were all purchased last December on the same date. Maybe something's in the works?

Both Mayor Dawn Arnold and Councillor Greg Turner have posted on FB about a tour they have taken of the Higgin's Block, including a number of photos.

These windows facing Main Street are great, and allow for a lot of natural light.

View of city hall from the roof.

This will be a fantastic space for any commercial enterprise seeking a high profile location on a major downtown intersection. COVID aside, this should be a popular venue for any business to consider.

Mayor Arnold made this comment:

Quote:
Just had a fantastic tour of the Higgins Block! This building, built in 1901 housed a shoe and boot maker... and then had many incarnations until the mid-80 s. So incredibly grateful to local developers (Adelin Properties and MACC Commercial Properties) who have the vision and passion for our city to take on this challenge I'm thinking that this would be the PERFECT spot for Shopify's Atlantic office!
I'm pretty sure she was joking about Shopify's Atlantic office, but you never know. Maybe she knows something we don't.............

The new sports dome at the CN Sportsplex has been installed and inflated. Looks 1000% better!

There's a nice website from Ashford Properties. It's called 'Ashford Living' and it's regarding their Highfield/Gordon development. https://ashfordliving.ca/

Signage is now installed for the Hilton Garden Inn on Highfield Street.

Another picture of the Hilton Garden Inn from yesterday evening:

1) - The signage is illuminated
2) - They have erected some very interesting support beams out front, presumably for the canopies over the main entrance, and the patio area off the hotel restaurant.

Looks fancy. With the stonework out front, and the cobbled driveway in front of the hotel entrance, this project is turning out very well!

So i was in Wolfville NS on the weekend and they have also limited vehicle traffic to one direction through their downtown except they did it the right way and eliminated the correct side of the road. The patios were expanded out onto the street and the extra space made it easy to walk back and forth. Too bad the powers that be in Moncton havent got brains enough to fix their mistake while theres still a little more than a month of summer left. Truly unbelievable. Whats more unbelievable is that a small town like Wolfville was more busy downtown on a Saturday night than Moncton is.

Re: the Harper Building site.

They have apparently cut the grass on the lot (first time in years).

This is on top of recent sightings of suspicious pickup trucks on the site, and the recent removal of the electronic billboards on site.

Is this yet more evidence that something may finally be afoot???

It certainly seems like something is afoot. But I get the feeling that we aren't going to see anything built on the scale of the previously announced plans. If they are going to finally do a development here, would they be announcing their plans?
