I case anyone is on the EV fence, once the Federal IZEV incentives kick in on May 1, you can have up to $16K in credits for an EV in BC. You just need an old gas/diesel car to scrap as a trade-in.

Or you can keep complaining about how expensive gas is...

...does the rebate count if all you can afford is a used EV?

Only part of it. I think you can get $3K for scrapping a gasser. The incentives theoretically should start to bring used costs down.

Are there any incentives to help with the cost of installing a level 2 charger in a condo parking spot?

I know but I wasn't waiting in a line that streteched onto the road and I was almost out of gas so needed enough to get home to Coquitlam

Yes but the program is oversubscribed (and should be renewed if the government of BC is serious about CleanBC):

https://pluginbc.ca/incentives/charging-solutions-incentives/

Our building is doing our own thing. The fine print on these incentives is you need to overbuild for the future, and hook up to a monitoring service for the electricity used. Overbuilding might be ok, but the monitoring services mean you're signing up to a monthly fee that you probably can't charge back enough for.

Our other issue, which I'm sure is shared by many condo dwellers, is the lack of available parking to allocate to shared EV charging. We are re-purposing a loading zone spot that is never used, but I doubt owners will ever agree to give up a second parking spot for EV charging. After this, it will be individual owners adding chargers to their parking spots. That will require a bunch of research and careful planning, managed by strata of course.

No kidding.

Also, congrats you save on gas but how about your groceries and necessities that get transported via trucks? We will all collectively pay...

I find it a tad bit humorous that we are all freaking out over gas prices but turning a blind eye to the complete gouging being done by the telecom industry. $5-10 increase in bills every 4-8 months is the new norm.

Or the hundreds of thousands of dollars per residential property in mortgage and interest and other ownership costs that we have done to ourselves by allowing the housing market to go out of control, which has a much more significant impact on a household budget?

Trump just ended the waivers that allowed China and India to avoid sanctions on Iranian oil, so expect prices to go higher.

The government does not care about citizens. Let's leave it at that.

At current gas prices it would cost me five times more to go the same distance on gas as it does to power my Bolt EV. And that's comparing it with my previous car, a Prius C, that only consumed 4.5 litres per 100 km.

It's about 14% of the cost.

Wow! That’s insnanse.

Just for an FYI average price of regular around here in Japan is 138¥ a liter. Essentially for all living purposes 1 yen is essentially 2 cent.

i found 155.9 next to a 165.9. seems weird you wouldn't match.
