Hey there are a lot of condos in Midtown that are inexpensive...the city definitely has all walks of life.

Keep us a sort of "secret" and always in the backs of people's minds, rather than tirelessly in front.
I'm confused, how many stories is the Dual Branded Hilton Garden/Homewood Suites? There have been plenty discussion and pics on this forum. For some reason I didn't think it was going to be more than 12 or 13 floors.

He was referring to having separate threads in the Highrise Construction and Proposal forums, not posting updates here.

what's going on with the Polaris? The old blue bubble is covered with what looks like a construction sheet. I heard years ago they were going to re-do it. that would be awesome if they are doing so.

I noticed that as well. This is what I pulled from a few articles:

"The three-year renovation plan will include the former Polaris restaurant, Hindsley said. He does not expect it will be a full-service restaurant again, as Hyatt wants to concentrate its food and beverage options in the hotel’s main level, but Polaris will be used in some way, he said" Atlanta Business Chronicle

"The Polaris stays, but it also is getting a new purpose. 'We are actually going to keep that project under wraps to maintain excitement about the renovation,' Hindsley said." AJC

I saw the sheet over Polaris on Sunday, and my pants got tight.

What would excite me more is seeing construction start/continue on TWELVE's north tower, and seeing a wrecking ball set up near the Medical Arts building on McGill and P'tree...

I saw some land being prepped on that corner yesterday, and wondered what the plan was. Interesting to hear about the bodega. Now the rest of 10th between Williams and P'tree needs to be redone, and that means you, Checkers and Domino's!

Wait a second...

Is Mamanoes building a new structure on the giant plot of land across from the FED? That seems like a huge waste for such a valuable plot of land. Wasn't Doucheberry planning on eventually building Midtown Square there (although I wonder if he's actually going to build ANYTHING in this city other than the Peachtree Pointe development)?

I haven't driven down 10th for a couple of days... am I thinking about the right spot or am I off base?

I really doubt this bodega will be new construction.

I'm guessing they'll take over the space in that existing building. Which isn't a bad building; it just another brick one-floor building with a terra-cotta roof. They're all over this town. It just needs remodeling.

According to the ABC there is an Italian restaurant ("La Tagliatella") going in the old Silk space. I'm not really into Italian food (is it just me, or does it seem passe these days?), but that's good I guess. Lots of competition in the area for them. Our commercial vacancy is looking a whole lot lower along Peachtree; the only thing that really is empty on that part of Peachtree now is Viewpoint.

Anyone looked inside Senor Patron? I looked in there and it looks like there are some big multicolored neon arches. Like a nightclub. Certainly a perplexing feature in what I assumed was going to be a basic Tex-Mex joint.

Checkers can stay, but only if it moves to the bottom of a skyscraper on that lot ;-)

Good luck to the grocery store... That corner has been commercially worthless with the ventures since J&J's closed. My belief has long been that Midtown needed a trendy small grocer--like the one in Inman Park next to Sotto Sotto (the name escapes me). I'm just thinking that this corner isn't the best spot given that it is a few blocks from most residences, is at a busy intersection, and just has that temporary feel to it--bottom of 1010 or Viewpoint would have been better I'd say. Just my 2 cents...

As for Senor Patron, the multi-colored arches are a vestige from the old Fune sushi bar/nightclub that was there 3-4 years ago but was shut down by the owner (a Novare subsidiary) for violating lease covenants (operating as a nightclub rather than as a restaurant). Fune reopened for a month or so as a restaurant but couldn't make it without the club component. Then the space sat for a few years with legal notices posted on the doors about bar equipment and furniture, and Novare couldn't bother to even keep the exterior looking passable. The inside probably needed quite a bit of work to get the space back into occupiable space. I hope for Spire and Peachtree Lofts that Novare isn't going to let Senor Patron operate like a nightclub, but my guess is that they can do what they want as long as they pay rent these days.

OK, Signore (o Signora?) Testarossa. Ricordate che la cucina Italiana non e' mai superato! Insulto!

Why are people so anxious to raze historic structures?
The Winecoff Hotel (also a former abandoned downtown building) was renovated and opened as The Ellis.

From hotels.com

Most people would agreee that the renovation was a success and the area is 'richer' for having such a beautiful building. Downtown's Fairlie-Poplar district is one of the most attractive sections of the city due in large part to the number of historic buildings like The Ellis.

Obviously, the MA building has seen better days but it honestly doesn't look too much different than The Ellis did prior to renovation. By tearing it down, the area would lose even more of its sense of history and personality.
