Thank you Stenar now I can know what to look forward to going in over across the street. It will be nice to have something finally in over there instead of the empty lot people would randomly leave garbage in

Yesterday Real Salt Lake announced

http://www.sportingnews.com/soccer/s...sustainability

Is it inevitable that parking lots will become solar farms? Not a bad thing and better then building out in the middle of no where.

They did that to the (surface) parking lot out at the Olympic Speed Skating Oval in Kearns; basically built carports over every parking spot on the lot, with angled solar panels built into the roofs. No idea how much power it generates, but it filled a need for a covered lot for a facility primarily used during winter months.

Just saw this drop for the farm land between Riverton & Herriman. I knew it was a matter of time before that was developed.

Quote:
Riverton City is pleased to announce a new agreement with CenterCal Properties, LLC, to develop a regional mixed-use project in Riverton on property CenterCal is purchasing from Suburban Land Reserve, Inc., a real estate arm of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
CenterCal has successfully developed a number of signature properties, including Station Park in Farmington, Utah, and The Village at Meridian in Meridian, Idaho. The approximately 85-acre project will be located on the northeast corner of the intersection of Mountain View Corridor and 13400 South.
Read more about this exciting announcement on our website: http://bit.ly/1Eh8qbx
So this is really close to the District so it will be interesting to see how it competes/fits in.

It was mentioned a while back that the area around 5300 S Redwood Road has redevelopment plans. The old Furniture warehouse on Road Redwood is coming down

That's my old stomping grounds as a kid. I lived up the street on 5300 south and about 2700 west.

It's not that close, I drive this twice a week. The District is on 11400 south and serves mostly the Daybreak homes. 13400 south and Mt View is wide wide open. From that intersection down to Bangeter it is open fields, probably old church farm fields. This new development will serve mainly Herriman and the western part of Riverton, which is still quite open right now. Land is for sale between 12600 and 13400 alone Mt View as well (82 acres) The South Town Mall and Draper's main shopping area are closer then these two developments. Now if they build a new theater there that is quite close .... but cinemark and Megaplex are in a arms race alone the Wasatch front.

Also for kicks and giggles, at 11800 South and Mt View they are building what I think are Hotels, about 300 rooms. This is close to the U of U hospital on the West side of Daybreak. They are extending the road there to make the old Bingham highway run through Mt View.

And there's a new McDonalds going up at 7800 s and 5700 west

^^^

Depending on your age, I may have been your teacher at Bennion Jr High.

On the Taylorsville Facebook page, they said that the new development there would be a bunch of smaller chain restaurants and other retail pads. I think they mentioned 5 Guys...basically the same kind of stuff that's in Jordan Landing and the development at 5600 West by Target...nothing too exciting. Was hoping they'd get some residential in there, but no dice.

I heard that the main tenant would be a CVS surrounded by Five Guys and a couple other restaurants. Planet Fitness is taking about expanding there gym at that location as well.

Now if the Family Center on the South side of 5300 South could be redeveloped.

I didn't attend Taylorsville HS. We moved after I finished school at Bennion Elementary in the 80's. Our house was across the street from Bennion Junior High School. But, I saw many movies in the theater, next to Leatherby's, in that strip mall, and frequented Grand Central before they became Fred Meyer.

It is in the beginning stages, the north half will be redeveloped first and will include new theaters, I'm guessing the ones in the Furniture Warehouse strip will either go out of business or become discount, unless it is that operator that is moving to Family Center.

The plan is big boxes surrounded by smaller retail, so basically just an updated version of what is already there, and sorry there is not residential included. They are missing a huge opportunity and when I interviewed for the Taylorsville Planner job I pretty much told them that if it was up to me that I would completely rezone the area to encourage the owners to develop mixed use. This is a huge missed opportunity for Taylorsville City, I continue to wonder why cities don't encourage/demand mixed use, and why more developers don't push for it either. Why the hell wouldn't you want to include a built in customer base for all the new retail?

Taylorsville and the surrounding area is mostly built out, so redeveloping these two centers into new but the same type of properties is simply going to cannibalize the surrounding retail destinations, like the Target further south on Redwood, that is already struggling. So when these open, the Target strip mall will lose a couple of clients, then in a few years will completely redevelop, taking away patrons from the new Family Center.

MIXED USE, IDIOTS!

Anyone know what is going on on Union Park Ave, across from Century 16 Union Heights? They have built some retaining walls, and the lot is all fenced off.....

I do love The RioT, it's just a shame it's in such a horrible location. Imagine how amazing that would look with not only the mountains in the background but with Little and Grand America and the rest of downtown behind the north goal.

The Riot. Home of lost trophies.

I keep holding out hope that we start seeing development around the stadium soon.

I was thinking the same thing. Oh the loss. Portland's stadium and location is awesome. Seattle shares theirs with the Seahawks(or the Mariners, one of them). Though, both Portland's and Seattle's are not on regular urban blocks, and I think that was the main issue for SLC. They couldn't fit the stadium on a regular block, despite SLC's larger block size. Seeing how big Portand's stadium is, it does make sense that Real could not fit it on a SLC block.

According to Google Maps, the block under consideration previously for the stadium in downtown is 650ft squared (inside the sidewalk). Length-wise, Rio Tinto is approximately 565 feet long. So, yes, the stadium could have fit on a downtown block.
