This complex looks like it’s a lot more than $5 million

Neighbours of proposed AI data centre near Regina raise concerns about water usage, noise

How could it cause a lot of noise? It’s so far away from developments.

I don't know enough about the location to have an opinion. I am not against the project. However, as a city taxpayer I would like to know just how this new business just outside the city doesn't cost ratepayers anything.
If the some of the workers are living in the city, they pay city property taxes and contribute to the cost of roads. Also, this project will pay a lot of corporate, payroll, PST, GST and other taxes that go to other levels of government that help pay for roads.

This article is completely wrong. The materials filed with the RM clearly state that water be from onsite cisterns and effluent will be in septic tanks. This tells you they will use very little water.

This is just a bylaw amendment. They still need a development permit which will deal with all infrastructure requirements/details, etc.

The story is about the Safety & Testing Center at the U of R, not the cost of an SMR, which is what is pictured.

That is a render of a SMR. They are not building that in Regina. In fact I do not think there will be a new building at all. It sounds like they will lease space in an existing building at the research park for the testing facility.

NDP: Sask Polytech’s ESET program relocates to Regina, forcing dozens of students to move with it
Students taking part in Saskatchewan Polytechnic’s Electronic Systems Engineering Technology program in Saskatoon are scrambling after being told the initiative is relocating to Regina.

A release from the NDP says dozens of students are now being forced to pick up and move, many of whom can’t afford to live on their own, and some of which have already set up their lives in Saskatoon.

The Opposition says the decision was a direct result of a mandate from the provincial government made with zero consultation with students or faculty.

A panorama I took in Victoria Park today. https://cdn.pannellum.org/2.5/pannel...5de7806c_o.jpg

A lot of housing starts on Wheat Crescent in Westerra this winter. Construction started on the building across from the rapid housing project, just pushing mud and hydrovaccing at the moment.

Another video of the Harbour Landing School construction. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CeYIQAXjs8g

A few large building permits pulled this week including:

$46.3 million for the LTC facility (a believe there was an earlier one for site prep and foundation)

$3.3 million for Capital Auto;

$2.5 million for Sobeys Quance (what's happening there?)

$1.2 million for a new build at 676 Solomon Cres.

Sounds like a pause is coming on expansion of the city to the south and southeast, but the NW is free to boom. Need to finish the new south sewage trunk and NW lift station projects to enable growth in the south.

No one is entitled to control their neighbour's activities to point where there is complete silence.

There's lots of weird hysteria out there concerning this project.

People are fearful of change and in particular new technology. There is no stopping AI at this point. We might as well share in the benefits.

That's how I feel about it as well. These things are getting built no matter what.

A very temporary one. The southeast stuff should be ready in the next five to seven years. Most residents will never notice a slowdown.

With the pace of growth out there, I wouldn't call that "very temporary".

Last time I was at the Skyview Village apartment site they hadn't even started the frame for the large building. Its going up fast using prefabricated wall segments.
