There was talk prior to the new masterplan process of two five-gate concourses extending out from the current terminal.

But, that does not look like it will happen now since the preferred option seems to be a satellite concourse.

I’m impressed you made it that far; it’s like 900 pages, isn’t it?

Location is one of the things they’ll have to plan out, most likely. As Golden Boot mentions, it seemed like the next extension would involve extending piers, but it does seem like the master plan is moving toward a satellite to minimize the disruption to operations. That makes sense, given that the terminal already needs all of its gates in operation, and it seems like, from a practical perspective, trying to build out temporary gates like they did during the current expansion would be a lot more difficult to do in the middle of the concourse...

Will they reconfigure the interior and install moving sidewalks?

Also, how many gates will be on the new satellite?
Interior will obviously change. How...we don't know. The satellite concourse will have at least 30 gates when completely built out. There is room for more satellite concourses to be built further down the road.

I’m down in Guanajuato til Wednesday (where the airport renovations due for completion last Christmas are still about six months from being done), otherwise I’d have gone. Curious to see how it’s all been narrowed down.

Also, are you going to make us guess who it is??

Yeah, details at this level won’t be available until the plan has been approved and passed off to an architect. We’re probably at least two years (realistically) from seeing the preliminary renderings with details about the interior.

Hint: He's an architect.

Why is there an IND to CDG flight? I checked online and it exists, but why? Is there some kind of strong business connection between Indianapolis and Paris?

From what I heard freight keeps it alive. GE transports engine cores for assembly in Paris from Indianapolis, for example.

The upper-level mezzanine Oculus will be part of the new Delta Sky Club.
This seems to be looking like a nice sky club! With this new maintence facility planned I wonder if that rumored Delta tech op facility is going to happen.

In terms of announcements recently, ABIA is getting pretty stale. I hope this is just due to lack of gate space more than anything.

Yes I think we are in a stagnant limbo state at the moment. We are close to the east terminal opening but not quite there yet. I expect that we will hear back to back announcements and other news once the opening is imminent but for now, things are laying in wait behind the scenes.

Quick rumor update: supposedly Southwest wants 2 gates, Delta wants 2 gates and Frontier wants one. This would put Southwest at 8, Delta at 5 and Frontier at one gate total. Some airport personnel visited the tower a while back and dropped this tidbit.

Who's taking the other 5 new gates?

If DL is really only taking only 2 new gates, then all the focus city rumors were just that...rumors - and nothing more. Yuk!

If this is accurate we're only going to pick up maybe 10 flights a day from Delta max. This means no focus city at all and probably limited international flight expansion and far fewer than we were all hoping for.

Right. Unless there was a shift in strategy none of this lines up with what we have been hearing.

5 gates doesn't make a ton of sense with their new sky lounge either, but perhaps they are intending to delay and wait for additional expansion of the port to take more gates?
