Yeah there are some great designs in Vancouver, I just find the majority of the towers to be less than exceptional (same with most cities really) especially with the sea foam green glass on the majority of them. Calgary has been making big strides, but there are still too many glass boxes. This city needs to embrace mixed use towers! I'm also hoping some of the rumoured towers here are as nice as they sound.

I think the biggest difference between Vancouver and Calgary is the former has found it's identity and knows what kind of city it is and where it wants to be, the latter is still lost in that regard. I hope to get to Vancouver this summer, been a few years and I love it there!

Here's a pano of Downtown Kitchener, kinda messy but it was not planned and it was my first. Also, the question of when City Centre will have shovels in the ground has been answered and it starts in June. Hopefully and judging by the strong sales, our new tallest, One Victoria will start soon as well.

The Sunlife Tower, the Exchange Tower and even part of FCP will be blocked by Theatre Park from that first angle, you can see its crane that first shot.

Shangri-la has the size of a very large office tower. The way it looks, it looks like it is the biggest tower in that photo.

you got that right. the big difference is this. the top five biggest skyscrapers in calgary would drastically dominate the van skyline. imo they are far nicer than any of vans so called superior designs. if we are comparing buildings here, why would we compare what is essentially calgary's most insignificant towers against vancouver's top of the line. then make the claim that some day calgary may build buildings that are nearly as good as vancouvers buildings. sorry but its the other way around. i am in no way trying to city vs city here. this is for comparison facts only. lets just keep it honest when it comes to skylines and skyscrapers. so.. when it comes to buildings in van and cal, the top buildings in cal win. purely from a visual and architectural standpoint. oh ya.. and size wise as well.

ps: vans over all skyline looks great, i like calgarys office towers better on and individual basis though.

That is completely opinion, save for the Bow, which is amazing, I find most of Calgary's tallest towers quite boring and uninspired on their own.

I would gladly take our "short" Shangri-La, One Wall Centre, Vancouver's Turn, Beach and Howe, and even the Georgia residence towers over most of Calgary's tallest.

Beach and Howe is going to be amazing, as will Vancouver's Turn.

I now some in Calgary hate the thought of someone playing with the idea that another western city in Canada might have some towers that are architecturally more interesting, even if they are not quite as tall. Its actually funny to see some take such a harmless comment so personally.

Oh, and by saying "I am not trying to start a city vs. city" does not let you off the hook, it is like the classic "I am not racist...." comment where you then say something racist hehe.

As I would gladly take the diversity of our skyline over block after block of the same style, boring condo's. To each their own though...
