Riffel expansion. I found a tender that indicates they are adding 4 stacked portables, so the construction is basically a 2 story hallway for the portables to connect to.

Looks like fog will mess with my plans to get out early tomorrow before the wind picks up, but its supposed to be sunny most of next week. I programmed an orbit of downtown I want to have the drone fly itself, sunny and low wind would be ideal.

They have not issued it yet. Not sure what the hold up is...

This should be expected as with the construction of the pool nothing with proposal was giving up for a new library. Nothing and on this project nothing the focus is on his toilet and sewerS

Weather was decent this morning so I managed to run the pre-programmed flight around downtown. I might bring it in a little closer and increase the altitude so it is looking more downward. Programming a flight offline you can only guess at what the framing will look like. Google Earth / Google Earth Studio can give me a rough idea. Google Earth Studio lets you create animations that are a lot like drone flights, thought the user interface is a bit clunky.

One wing of the LTC building tarped off so they may have poured that slab.

Thank you for the amazing photos
In June 2024, we shared the news that Graham had been selected for the Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) phase of the Regina Specialized Long-Term Care project. Today, we are pleased to announce that the project is proceeding to construction.
The new long-term care facility will be built on a greenfield site in southeast Regina. The five-storey long-term care home will provide 240 specialized care beds. The main floor will include staff offices and lounges, a therapy centre, multipurpose rooms, Indigenous gathering and spiritual spaces, food services, and essential storage and maintenance areas. A mechanical penthouse and a full suite of central services will support operations, ensuring a safe, modern, and welcoming environment for residents and staff.
Graham is proud to deliver design and construction services for the Government of Saskatchewan. Mobilization to site is underway, with construction scheduled for completion in fall 2028.

Your orbital flight around the downtown core is super cool! I've never seen anything quite like it for Regina. Thanks!

Huge news reported last night of a 500,000 square foot data centre to be built by Bell just south of Polytech in the RM. Big tax revenue for the RM and lots of revenue for SaskPower. Fantastic for the Regina area.

Great news that’s a massive data center. Are there any links?

AllSask News. Subscription only. There should be something on the RM's website.

So beside where the new care home is being built, you mean? Like this area?

I'm not opposed to all data centres, but the vast majority recently have been for AI use (though mostly in the US), and have resulted in massive electrical use, with increased power prices as a result. Fortunately we have a Crown Corp, not a private utility, but the downsides to these AI datacentres is massive in many areas, and a huge number of communities have been fighting successfully against them.

The area you circled is in the city limits, so no. Note the SaskPower transformer station at the bottom of your image. According the RM website is it is just east of that. The transformer station is the terminus for reliable power direct from Estevan. SaskPower's diversified power generation sources are attractive. You may have heard that SaskPower was selling $millions in power to the U.S. in the recent cold snap.

Construction trailer and some construction fencing at the aquatic centre site. Also handful of bars poking out of the ground. Not sure how long that's been there. Took a picture with my phone, probably should have just use the drone. Parliament Ave Coop gas station building up, working on the carwash foundation.

I might head out east tomorrow. The primary / secondary roads are clear enough I should be able to use my mountain bike. The residential roads are wicked icy. I usually stick to those in the winter, but at the moment they are almost too ice for the studded tires on my fat bike.

Modified the downtown orbit program to be closer to what I originally planned. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Guqf9zNI2s
After running the program I flew around a bit on the way back to the yards. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UWWRTg2nhbg

It was while flying around I noticed the big antenna on city hall, which was a little concerning as the orbit flight today flew OVER city hall. Checking the flight gps against satellite imagery I passed within 20 feet of the tower. So I'll have to modify that program before using it again to add more of a buffer. The drone has obstacle detection so it might have diverted had it been closer.
